Hi there,

I recently bought a second monitor to use with my computer. My display adapters are an HDMI to VGA to a VGA splitter. This splitter has two VGAs coming out into the monitors. Both monitors display fine, but when I identify, they both show up as monitor 1. I want to have one monitor be 1 and the other to be 2, so I can extend my display. If anyone can help me that would be great.

Thank you!

You're not going to be able to do this with a VGA splitter. The only method to use would be to hook a second monitor up to one of the DVI plugs on your card, then assign either the HDMI/VGA or the DVI as the primary monitor.

Not for nothing, but what kind of monitor(s) are you using? I'd like to believe that you're using something that takes advantage of HDMI (or DVI, for that matter).

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
That makes sense. Thank you very much for your help. For your question about the monitors, I am using a dell monitor that has VGA and DVI. Before switching to two monitors I used an HDMI to DVI adapter on my one monitor. Would you recommend that I buy two DVI cables in order to do this?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
What ports are available on the card you have
Google images showed a couple of either vga's or dvi's if so why not use them instead of the hdmi ?
Take a picture of the existing ports and upload it here so we might see what you have,
Cheers.

Yeah, as long as you have some decent monitors that can use DVI, go that route and buy the two cables.
