Trying to use Killdisk in DOS but keeps saying bad command or filename

I am trying to use Killdisk in DOS, but everytime I write >killdisk.exe -? (as instructed) it says that it is a bad command or filename. I am quite the amateur and so I apologise in advance if this is a silly question - I have never used DOS before!

What are you trying to achieve with killdisk? Perhaps we can suggest a better alternative.

Thanks for your reply...sorry for my delay.

I am getting rid of an old computer, and so want to erase the hard drive before doing so.
