Hi again , you guys seem to know Win 7 backwards :) I need some help please, I am trying to use Netplwiz to set up auto log on , on my Win Ultimate x64 installation but when I boot up I get my user account comes up but says that the password is incorrect and that when I then click on it I then need to just click the arrow box to the right of the password field, without entering a password as I didn't set a password in Netplwiz it then boots into my account fine.

What am I doing wrong , I just want my PC to log in automatically when I start her up that's all !

You do not need a third party program for Win7 to start up to the desktop. I would uninstall it now.

Then don't set up a password or remove it in Control Panel>User Accounts, in Power Options choose Don't Require a Password on Wake-up.

Firstly Netplwiz isn't a third party program it is part of Windows ? secondly I don't have any Power options setting when I open up user accounts window ???

Never heard of Netplwiz which appears to be for business. What are you using it for exactly? I would remove what ever settings you gave it. You don't need this to start to the desktop - just don't assign a password.

Where did you get Ultimate? How is it activated?

Power Options is in the Control Panel when you View by Icons.

Hello Atomic,

Just to clarify since it will make a difference, is this at startup only after a shut down or restart, and not from say waking up the computer from sleep or hibernation?

You might go ahead and create a password for your user account, then go through the tutorial below again to enter the new password to see if that may help.

Hope this helps, :)

Shawn, why would netplwiz be needed to auto-logon when having no password would boot normally to the desktop anyway in Win7?

Sorry to interrupt but I and others may need schooling on this.

Hey Greg,

No problem. I've seen this happen a few times after an account had a password, and the password was removed. For whatever reason, it still prompted with log on for you to just press Enter since there's no password.
