trying to use parallel printer (laser engraver) with a usb to parallel

I have Windows 7 x64 bit. I hooked us a usb to parallel port cable from the computer to the laser engraver. Windows immediately installed an IEEE-1284 Controller even though the Laser Engraver was turned off. I installed the parallel port driver and tried to hook them up using the USB002 port (free).

No communication. I have looked in properties of both and I am totally stumped. HELP PLEASE! And it is a little over $35K to replace the Laser Engraver, BTW. Help Please!

Okay I solved it. These are the steps I took.
1. Installed the USB to Parallel cable to the computer and printer (Printer was off).
2. Installed the printer driver - made it the default printer!
3. Assigned it to an open USB port - in this case 2.
4. No communication.
5. Made another printer the default printer
6. Windows removed the printer I installed. It was no where.
7. Installed the printer driver again except I started by assigning it to the USB port number I used above and made it default as I was installing it.
8. IT WORKS!
9. It is a Belkin USB to Parallel cable.
10. I have Windows 7 Pro x64 bit!

Glad your fixed but I do have a question.
After you completed doing the things in Post #1 did you reboot your computer and Engraver?
