Ex-Kazaaer wants to turn pirates into paying customers!

Here's how it works, as described by the Sydney Morning Herald. Azaak is meant for ISP-level deployment, and will intercept attempts at Internet piracy. Anyone who attempts to search for nasty, evil, pirated software, movies, or music will instead be presented with an opportunity to legally buy access to that same content. The ISP gets a cut of the revenue (assuming our would-be Jack Sparrow ponies up the cash), the new customer has legal software, piracy has been averted, and everyone goes home happy.

Nope. Don't like it. Not one little bit. If I want internet access, I pay an ISP for internet access. If I want the police, I'll ring for one. I do not want them to be the same entity

I can just see the owners of my ISP salivating at the mouth at the thought of all that 'extra revenue'.

First they're trying to put in ISP level 'no naughty to protect kiddies' internet filter. Now this ISP level Azaak business. It's hard enough getting good speed as it is without all these multiple filters slowing down the works.

The filtering and identification required for the mass amounts of data packets will slow networks down to pre-internet levels :sarc:

It means identifying and tagging every last packet of information sent/received from a persons internet connection then filtering and redirecting the content...I dont even want to think about the chances of blocking legitimate content because I cant calculate the amount of packets that could be filtered and redirected for an entire country :huh:

Its exactly the same as spyware and adware (think about it...) rolled into one "filter" at a ISP level for everyone`s internet connection...You can see the obvious implications of doing this

Probably why 'Windows Live Search' (that & performance) is struggling. Imagine the pirates don't want to search with Microsoft!

After all, didn't Google (China) turn over info on all the radicals to the communist govt. How much info do the search engines know about you?

I agree entirely. Personally, It doesn't bother me that software companies are trying to limit piracy, but rather that the ISP is restricting content, possibly innocent content that has been deemed "evil". That's the beginning of sensorship on a much broader basis.

I couldn't agree more. Once you ban one thing it is just too easy to start adding other things to the list.

Think about "net neutrality". Didn't Comcast just get scolded by the federal government over P2P throttling? Net neutrality was the term I seen used.

Also that ISP in return will get fewer and fewer customers because of the filter. Think about it, instead of getting extra cash, that ISP will actually get less because of fwer customers.
