Turtle Beach Montego DDL + 5.1 vs Windows Seven

Like I said I have a Montego DDL, everything worked fine on XP with of course the corresponding XP drivers, however now using Seven with Vista drivers I'm having difficulties with my surround speakers. I can't get the surround speakers to do anything using windows media 12; however i've never been able to get WM to utilize my surround speakers ever (I tried though) Anyways, I then downloaded K-lite 5 (newest) and used FFDshow audio configurer to change settings of the codec which caused the surround speakers to sound distorted so I reversed all the changes that I had made. I then decided to uninstall the device driver and allowed windows seven to detect the hardware automatically (because it did that without my consent anyways at start) All along the Vista driver allowed each speaker to operate as its supposed to through turtle beach control panel using the test feature. (Each speaker would output in the right location and whatnot) However I wouldn't get any sound coming from media. I know my control panel settings are correct and configured right. I DID get the surround speakers to output sound using media player classic using the "audio switcher" and custom mapping the channel (actually not really knowing what i'm doing I just sorta activated every option and checked all the boxes and sound started to come out of those speakers. I'm yet to try other media applications for further results because its late and i'm sleepy :shock: But i'm relatively certain that the settings I configured using the audio mapper only apply when i'm using Windows Media Player Classic. Not to mention i'd THINK that audio mapping isn't a "natural" state more of a of forced operation. I never had to do all this before with XP... it just seemed to work (except not in WM, of course :sarc NOW... i'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this and can offer me some help!) Also, side question.. does Windows Media support 5.1 channel speakers? I've never seemed to get it to work. Thanks, sorry for the drawn out explaination.. like I said, i'm sleepy. Please help!

In Win7 the audio driver structure has undergone quite an extensive overhaul.

Though it is vastly superior to anything before, I see a lot of audio related issues in these forums.

I guess it will take some time before the manufacturers get their drivers sorted out.

Remember Win7 isn't even in the shops yet, so give it some time.

It took a fair while before the manufacturers had descent drivers for Vista, if any at all.


I know it isn't helping you, but to understand the problem is half the problem solved.

I hope there will be proper working drivers for your card soon.

Windows 7 Drivers We are planning to have Windows 7 Drivers around the official release of Windows 7 timeline, in the Fall of 2009.

If that is the case then you're looking at workarounds until they finally decide to put the driver out (hope you have no intention of ever going 64 bit with that card as TB seems to have no intention of ever putting out a 64 bit driver).

Good news!

Even though the twits as Turtle Beach don't have a Windows Vista 64 or a Windows 7 driver available, you can download a Vista as well as Windows 7 (beta) driver directly from C-Media (the makers of the CMI8738 chip which drives the Montego DDL. I downloaded the Win7 driver and it's working just fine on my Win7 64 RTM release.

I don't know if the Vista driver they have up there supports 64 as well as 32 but since they don't mention either, I'll assume it supports both just as the Win7 driver does.

I am running 64bit windows 7 and have downloaded the drivers straight from cmedia and my system seems to recognize it and it seems to operate just fine but i get no sound through the digital out (optical cable). Not sure what the problem is. Have looked into driver signing but i dont know what exactly i'm looking for. Please help!
