TV on the PC

I'm getting rid of my TV and I want to watch TV thought my computer. What is the best way to do this?

I sometimes use Hulu when i miss shows on T.V.

Either by installing a card, which will enable you to receive programs in the same way as you did with your TV or by watching streamed programs over the Internet. Either way, if you currently require a license to watch TV (as we do here in the UK), you may need one to continue watching, even if you are no longer going to be watching on a TV but a PC. Check the necessary terms and conditions.

Why bother dumping the tv why not just get a HDTV and hook the pc up that way just switch from HDMI back to the regular channel source

It will all be on one screen just have to do the input switching but it beats installing a card that would kinda be a waste of money if you think about it

in the end you would be loosing money the card is a average 79.99 to 100.00 us dollars then you would need to run a coax cable to the card

and if you already own a HDTV then you would just have to provide the SV cable or go HDMI

I basicly went dual screen but when i watch downloaded movies i switch to the tv and it is the same thing as having a tv tuner installed

By the way try Jtv there is always someone streaming the latest shows news and ppv events

also knowing what Vidcard you are useing would greatly help to even see if it can do HDMI or SV

Right,my comp came with a separate TV card (haupauge essentially a tv tuner which has it's own tv cable attached). Basically I plugged a 3-way splitter into the tv cable. one goes to my regular tv, one to my router and one goes to the tv card. That way I can watch/record my regular cable program through Windows media center

Only disadvantage: the recordings are in .wtv format (under Vista it was .dvms or so)
So you'd need TMPGEnc to cut out commercials but others than that it works just like a programmable VCR
But to be honest, I rarely watch TV anymore.Too much cr*p, too many reruns and WAY to many commercials.

@sledgedg it only makes sense if you don't watch tv as much I rarely watch tv my wife watches more then me hence im always working and realy don't care for soaps and regular weekly progaming i mostly get my watching through streams and pretty much get all the useless crap out of my way

Im a sports junkie so most of the time im catching up on missed games and ppvs not so much watching standard shows don't get me wrong i like csi ncis all kinds of cop shows but most of the time im on the go and can't really be comfortable for hours on end staring at a screen hahaha unless im gaming or into a real good movie download

I have a Dell Ultra-sharp 2407WFP which has both Analog- S-video and Component inputs. I simply run the component cable from my cable box to the monitor and watch TV either in full-screen 1080i or in a variable sized window in the monitor itself. I'm free to browse- play games or whatever and watch it either in the window (or with the touch of a button) full screen. No TV card is needed and its just like having an HD TV.

I use a Win TV HVR-950 Tuner with the Windows 7 Media Center that allows me to view scores of QAM channels many of which are broadcast in HD on Comcast Cable and they look absolutely terrific! I am able to switch back and forth between the computer's ATI video card and the same channels going directly to my 32" Bravia and the video card makes the picture look so much better because of the adjustments that can be made in the video card that I seldom if ever watch programming through the TV tuner any more.

Another great source of programming is Hulu Desktop. I used to watch shows on Hulu through my browser, but I have found that it is a much better viewing experience viewing Hulu when the programming is downloaded directly to the desktop.
