So the story goes by like this:

My harddrive failed and i replaced it, no problem.
Some months ago my laptop screen broke, which didn't affect me that much because i use a TV as a monitor.

That's the problem, setup won't show on my TV. That's a huge issue as my laptop screen is broken and i can barely see what it says. I know that setup is running because i see the huge purple background in some parts of the screen. So can you guys help me? What a stupid question! Of course you can.

So you are using a TV as a monitor and now your problem is that you cannot see the installation window on it, uh um I'm a bit lost right now, how do you make other stuff happen? Or is this the problem that you are watching a muddy screen and you can't make out anything?

I have a broken laptop screen. I'm trying to install Windows 10 on my new harddrive but setup won't show up on my TV screen, i can't use my laptop screen because it is broken(obviously), the only thing i'm able to see are some colors(on the laptop screen).

So, get the screen fixed, then proceed.

That's the only solution? I'll just have to wait for christmas and hopefully i'll get a new computer.

I would at least see how much a new screen will cost, fixing it is so easy.

Most laptops have a key combination that will cycle through the main monitor/external monitor being on and off. This is built in to the BIOS and is not affected by the OS (or lack thereof).

Also, some laptops will probe the external monitor connection at power-up and use an external monitor if one is available. Make sure that your TV is plugged in to the laptop and set to the correct input BEFORE turning on the laptop. Once again, this is built in to the BIOS so the OS doesn't matter.

I can't find a clear picture of a Pavilion G6 keyboard, but it looks like "Fn" + F4 will turn on (and off) the external monitor.

Didn't work, where am i supposed to press those buttons? In the BIOS? At boot?

Press them once you get into Windows. Just hold down Fn and press F12 until you can see the video on your TV set.

Hmm... from a COLD BOOT (not Sleep or Hibernate) have the TV connected and set to the proper input. Do you see the POST on the TV? If not, there may be deeper problems.
But, if you DO see activity on the TV that disappears when Windows starts, read on...

Try this: let Windows start completely (sitting at the desktop). Hold Fn and press and release F4 four times.

If that didn't work, try this: from the Windows desktop, press Win+P.

That exhausts my knowledge of connecting external monitors (and TVs) to laptops.

I only see when input when Windows goes into it's splash screen(the background and the clock)

I have Win-P set. I'm gonna try the FN F4 thing now.

If the thing with the screen does not work, then you can take out the hard drive and plug it in to your desktop if you have one that is.
