TV Tuner not detected :/

I just started using Windows 7 on my PC but the TV Tuner isn't detected. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core from HP that came w/a TV Tuner as a "Media Center" type of bundle. I've tried searching for the name of my tuner card but I couldn't find any specifics. Is there any chance of using the same tuner card w/Windows 7?

Welcome to SF! kooladen Having fun with tuner cards as well I see!

The one big annoyance was actually seen when Vista first came out and lacked drivers and updates for tuner card applications! Fortunately for 7 you can go for the Vista update and tuner driver and still see that work on 7.

The best little freeware for finding out just what hardwares as well as softwares are on your system is called the System Info for Windows(SIW) tool found at SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala

Once you know the manufacturer's brand name and model number you can go directly to their own support site to see if Vista updates are available. Many even now are still only seeing XP drivers for certain makes and models unless you had Vista preinstalled originally.

I downloaded the SIW program but I have no idea where i can find the info i'm looking for, is there a sub-heading or keywords i should be looking at?

Probably look under the video heading, I don't have a tuner card, so not sure ?

That's actually quite easy to find there by first looking under "Hardwares" and being a multifunction sound and video device you would look under "sound, video, and game controllers" as if you were in the device manager there when scrolling down the column on the left. You'll find that the SIW tool provides quite a bit of detailed info on any item.

Can you specify which model you have? I had purchased one (for all of 2 weeks) back in Early April of 2008, before I realized that building my own system was gonna be cheaper and better for me in the long run (I got it at Circuit City, and it was a steal at $839 - My machine ended up costing me more, but I have a pair of GTX 260s as well as a pair of 22" wide screen monitors....)

Once you know the make and model you can go right to the manufacturer's own site to see if they have any Vista updates if you were running XP prior to 7 there. The automatic updates I found was actually the worst way to go for the card while that also saw the latest driver.

The updated application also saw the accompanying tuner driver bundled or you could simply download the device driver alone. If the card is good it should already be seen in the device manager under "other devices" as a multifunction adapter. Once the correct update goes on Windows should then be notifying you with a popup saying it found a new hardware and is installing the drivers.

Go to Run and type in msconfig
go to the area were it says Boot
Click on the operating system
Click on advanced options
Change your memeory to read 4095. It will default to 4096.
This prevent Win 64 rom load anymore than 3 meg of ram.
There is a bug in Media Center.
It will not run with more that 3 meg of ram.
It work great.

You mean not more then 3 gigabytes or 3gb for that.

It won't hurt to try that out here while Kooladen has a somewhat different problem getting the drivers active once installed once the correct ones are found. This is why the SIW tool was suggested there for finding out the make and model tuner card used.

The thing that would help more for that would be the model HP you are running there. Kooladen The product info at HP should also list the options they have for that model as far as the card used. Once you know that you can go to the card's own manufacturer.
