Is it possible to configure Windows 7 to automagically launch and play audio in, e.g WMP if audio CD is inserted in CD rom A, and iTunes if audio CD is inserted in CD rom B?
No, I believe that the association is with the disc type, not with the drive letter.
Though your question raises my question: Why do you want to use two different media players?

I thought it may be doable with task scheduler but I could not find any options for it. You may be able to find a 3rd party program to do that but with whats its asking more than likely it will not be free.

surely if the drives are set to always ask ,then the autoplay will give you the option as to whichever player to use. its not the same as it running automatically but hey!

I have two livingrooms next to each other and want to use my HTPC as a simple zone divider. To do so I simply assosiates iTunes with one audio output that is not the default output.
Unfortunately, I think you will have to use boohbah's method. It's one extra step, but it will achieve what you want it to.

Is "always ask" the only way to go here?
Surely there must be a way to manipulate Windows for this.
I don't have the skills to to so, but I should think that it's possible to write a script that could do this.
Anyone?
Yes I am sure A script could be written...
I could write one, so could you...
Do the same thing I would have to do pick up a book on programming C+ and includes how to write dll's

Ummm,
I know there are several companies that create programs for internal use and release them for purchase I would tunnel through your favorite search engine of choice and maybe you can find something...
Another option which would be a huge pain is to take each cd. and create an autorun file for each of them and burn them to a new disk.... but it would function :S

Thank you. I've tried google (of course) but I'm not sure if my search query is optimal.
Your second option is doable, although I might as well learn C+
Given the amount of time spent and money spent on second cd's/dvd's if your collection is anything like mine would be horrible
Given the money time and effort, Personally I would try c+ because its a great tool to have... I use python for a lot of things... I made an OMFG menu that I have plugging for every app I use and every crash it has performs I have found a fix for The app crashes or hangs I launch the menu I type the menu option for that program and it fixes it .
Granted its nothing like what you are going to be taking on
I just thought of a way this may be able to be done....
Is there a way to set in logs that something was added or removed from a certain device?
