Two Graphics Cards

Hi I have a Dell XPS and am trying to run three monitors from two graphics cards.

I have a Geforce 8400 graphics card and an ATI Sapphire Graphics card.

When I plug both in, one is using a pci express 16 slot and one is using a pci express 1 slot, there is no monitor signal.

I have tried the graphics card in the pci express 1 slot by itself and that does not work either.

Can anyone help, I have seen lots of conflicting info on the forums.

Do you have the right drivers installed for each card?

nvidia will not (by default) allow an ATI card to be the primary video card.

With a single card in the pci-e x1 slot, do you get a signal in safe mode?

Plugging one of them into a PCIe x1 slot is probably not a good idea. If you check the minimum system requirements for each card I think you'll find a x1 slot isn't an acceptable option.

I have been told that I would need two graphics cards that are the same and even then I am not sure if the pci 1 slot will work so I think I will go for a usb external graphics card just to be sure.
