Hi guys,
I saw something a little strange pop up last night that's not causing any problems that I know of but thought I'd run it by the pro's here just in case.
About two weeks ago I updated my two home pc's to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I'd previously run this setup on XP Pro x64 through the Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.2. Both of the installs were clean as I installed a new hard drive on my machine and formatted my girlfriend's. I seem to recall everything working out for a few days before we began to get random disconnections. More so when one of us was already online, gaming or surfing.. the other would attempt to login to their email or start a game and suddenly we'd both get disconnected.
After doing a little testing it appeard to me that the router was the culprit, so last night I ran down and picked up a Netgear WNR2000-100NAS. Setup was a breeze and both computers were immediately picked up so I was able to reconnect both pc's back into the homeroup.
My question is regarding the current state of our homegroup. On my pc the homegroup is labeled: Homegroup 3 and on my girlfriend's it's labeled as Homegroup 2. I know when troubleshooting and connecting only my pc to the modem that I inadvertantly created the second homegroup on my machine before purchasing the new router, leaving that homegroup and starting another which is labeled 3.
Is there a problem with my pc's having different names for the homegroup they're connected to? I had no problems sharing files, printers, or anything else... and everything SEEMS to be ok.
I thought about leaving the homegroup on her machine in order to join again... being the third time I'd joined a network on her machine I assumed it would automatically be named Homegroup 3 then.
Or... should I just ignore it?
Or... can I manualy change the title of the Homegroup? The actual Homegroup is known as "WORKGROUP" so I'm not asking how to change the name.. just the title Windows is using to describe it. I always assumed I'd want both pc's to show theyre on the same whether it be Homegroup 1, Homegroup 2, or whatever.
thanks!
