I have a Brother HL-2270W Wireless All-In-On laser printer which also does duplex printing.

I'd like to be able to have two entries in my Devices and Printers list that point to this same printer. One would be setup to default to Duplex printing. This would make it a lot simpler than having to select this each time I print something.

Setting it for Duplex as the default causes every page, even if it only is a single page, to go through the duplex process which slows down non-duplex printing a lot.

So, any way to do this???

I am not sure that this will work but you can try it anyway;
Open Control Panel, Printers. Right click select add a Printer, in the new window select add a local Printer, select Use an existing port.
(Right click on your existing Printer, select Printer properties, select Ports and have a look at which port your exiting printer is connected to)
Install Cont. Select the Port that you have just located and click next, Install the driver, Click next, Type the name you want to use,(it must obviously be different to your default Printer) Click next, you may be asked about sharing the printer, Click next, you can now Print a test page, Click finish.

You will now have two Printer icons.

I hope this helps

I have just found out that the copies will disappear do not be alarmed, by right clicking on the remaining printer icon you will still be able to set properties etc. of both Printer icons
Do not laugh but setting up a new Printer icon is also brand new to me :) and I almost died when the new Printer icon suddenly disappeared :doh:

That works!!!! Thank you.

They don't both show up in the Devices and Printers window, but when you print something, both are selectable.

Now to see if duplex actually works.

Edit: Yup! Works perfectly. Thanks again.

I know this is an old thread. This used to work in Windows 10 up unti the latest April 2018 Update. Now I can't get two printers defined from my Brother HL-2270DW, one Duplex, the other non-Duplex. If anyone comes up with a method to make this work again, please post here , even though this is sevenforums.

No sooner posted this than I figured it out.

From Devices and Printers, click on Add a Printer.
Next, click on The printer I want isn't listed.
Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, click Next.
Select another port of the same type currently being used, probably a USB. Mine was using USB004 so I chose USB002 then clicked Next.
Pick your printer, mine was Brother HL-2270DW series.
Select Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended).
Give the printer a unique name. I set my original one to Brother HL-2270DW Duplex so I made this one Brother HL-2270DW.
Click Next and your done.
