two sound cards/stereo mix

so i have two sound cards installed, one is my onboard card and the other is my installed PCI sound card

On-board:
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

PCI:
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Sound Cards

i want to be able to listen to music through my sound blaster card and use the stereo mix from my onboard to record what i hear. any way to either link them to make this possible, or have sound go through both without having to plug in speakers into my onboard?

the stereo mix works fine with my onboard, the problem is that it requires speakers pluged in to work. any way to bypass this?

If you want to record "what you hear" (what is playing on the PC's speakers) you don't need the on-board sound. SoundBlaster has the "what you hear" option (what SoundBlaster calls the System Mixer).

You can only have one default audio device for any function. Dual sound cards will not work for all functions. Actually, you should be able to do everything with the SoundBlaster and disable the Integrated audio in the BIOS so it doesn't conflict with the SoundBlaster.

To make matters worse he essentially has 3 sound cards,

1. the onboard Via

2. the Audigy SE

3. the Logitech USB headset

As far as "What u Hear" on the Audigy, unless you can find a driver that works with Windows 7 with it showing in the Windows recording properties, it isn't going to happen as Creative disabled it in the drivers,

second post. I would almost say that from looking at that screen shot that the proper drivers for the Audigy aren't installed as there is nothing showing at all for it under Recording; no microphone, no line in, etc.

I have some older Audigy SE drivers on a Dell desktop and the What You Hear is in that. But, I know some later versions deleted that, as I was working with a client that also had an Audigy SE and he wanted the What You Hear and another function (don't remember), but the later drivers included the other function the client wanted but did away with the What You Hear. The Client upgraded to a newer SoundBlaster that had both of the functions.

so...are you guys saying its not possible to do what im thinking?
just so you guys know
1. i have the latest drivers installed, but i hid all the other devices because i don't use them thats why you don't see them on my pictures
2. the reason you don't see my what you hear even with the latest driver is because creative labs removed the option on their latest drivers
3. i don't really care if i have multiple sound cards it doesnt do anything to my main sound card only to my onboard, which i don't even use
4. unfortunately the driver you provided didn't work either

Stereo Mix will only every record the sounds that go the that card or hardware. If it goes to another place Stereo Mix will not record anything. It is a hardware function and if the hardware is not used it cannot record anything.

try reaper and asio4all mate, here's a basic overview (using audacity, but reaper is the shiz.. warning you might get addicted. think visualstudio... for sound.. and vision. craziest changelog ever. justinfrankel is a leg end)
