Two SSDs running IDE and switching both to AHCI for the same computer?

I have two SSDs, one as my main drive including OS, and one as an exact clone as my backup. Both are running SATA II (ASUS P5Q Pro Mobo), IDE mode. If I switch the main SSD to AHCI (using the regedit tweak) and like the results, since the BIOS would then be set to AHCI, how would I go about changing the backup SSD to AHCI since the registry msahci value on that drive would still be 3 with the BIOS set to AHCI? I'm running Win 7 Pro.

Or, another scenario only involving the main SSD. Let's say I change the main SSD to AHCI and decide to go back to IDE for whatever reason. I'm guessing it's a simple matter of changing the registry msahci value back to 3, reboot and change the BIOS back to IDE, reboot again and should be back to IDE?

Yup do this to your other drive with the working one to make the edit to it after. How to Edit the Registry on a Secondary Drive | Techwalla.com

Good luck. Don't forget to backup your registry before making the ahci change.
Thanks! Actually, since my system with either of the SSDs in IDE mode is performing very well and very fast in everyday computing, I've decided to just stay with IDE on both SSDs since my Mobo is SATA II and don't think AHCI is going to make a noticeable difference in everyday performance. Everything is nearly instantaneous as it is, and to me, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Windows 7 cannot run trim on your ssds when in ide mode and that will lower the lifespan of them in the long run.

After installing the SSD, I ran command prompt "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" and the value= 0, so trim is enabled. I've been using the Crucial as main drive for about a year in my graphics design business and it's still going strong.

To check if it is indeed working run the exe in your ssd drive then let it make a file log and when it says to close it close it wait a minute then rerun it and it will say if the file is found or good.

Thanks for the exe. Ran it and Trim is indeed enabled and working.

So, I should be good to go with the existing setup in IDE with Trim enabled on both SSDs?

BTW, benchmark numbers for the Samsung are better than the Crucial, but in everyday 'real world' use in my graphic design business, I don't see any performance difference.

yeah they are generally so fast that you wont notice a difference aside form loading times normally. If you have trim your good.
