Solved Type Of Cord Needed Inside Desktop For USB 3

I bought my nephews old desktop. It has four USB plug ins up front. Two are USB 2 and two are USB 3. The USB 3 ones are not hooked up inside the desktop. I'm going to try and buy some wires to hook them up but I'm not sure the official name /type I'm looking for. So, what am I looking for? My motherboard is ASUS P8H67-M PRO. Thanks in advanced.

Generally you will want a USB 3.0 cable with an Internal Header, that connects to the motherboard USB socket. However, if you intend to connect to USB port on your computer case, then there should already be sufficient cable installed / wrapped up somewhere near the front of the case. USB 3.0 connectors are blue in colour. If the connectors are black, then they are no good.

I checked the manual and it only shows integrated USB 2.0 ports. You can get a USB 3.0 card with internal ports such as this one.

Also remember that these cards due to the requirements of multiple USB3 ports will usually require, and it is always recommended that you, supply a separate power cable from your internal loom, so in addition to the USB internal cable you will also need a spare power cable of the correct type or suitable adaptors (Molex or SATA). These may be already in place for the front mounted USB3 ports but not connected you need to check this before you proceed
