Hi,
Since installing Windows 7 Home Premium on my acer 5738X using the upgrade kit supplied by Acer, I and my son have both had problems when typing . You start typing a letter etc then without warning you are part way through a line and the curser moves by itself to a line you have already typed and if you do not notice you end up typing in this line and your work all mixed up.
It has done this in Word, Word pad, email and on webforms. We both use Acer 5738X
Pentium T2400 processor
4gb ddr3 ram
320gb hard drive
Any advice please...........:(

First, welcome to the Seven Forums.

This might sound crazy but I have a similar issue every time I'm using my laptop without disabling the touchpad. I really don't like touchpads, I am almost always using a mouse. When touchpad is not disabled I somehow always manage to touch it without noticing, causing the cursor to jump elsewhere.

It might not be your case, still I thought it could be worth mentioning.

Kari

I checked and there were no drivers installed for the touch pad. I downloaded them from Acer, ALPS but they were march 09. Installed but then the pointer was uncontrolable. Uninstalled the drivers and just used mouse settings.
Found a button on keyboard to disable touchpad, tried this and had no problems typing this.
Thanks for the welcome and for the advice...:)

Hello, resurrecting this thread for typing problems.

I bought a HewittPackard 64bit Windows7 system about a month ago. I've had several serious problems with it before even connecting to the internet. I did a system restore and everything seems good EXCEPT for some typing problems.

At least 5 separate times my system has gone crazy typing one letter over and over again until I quickly stop it by hitting any key. Example: the quick brown foxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx....
Windows goes off on its own and types this last letter over and over again without me even touching the keyboard. It was a 'b' once, and an 'A' another time. Doesn't matter what letter, just does it randomly.

If I open a window like this REPLY window to type a question, when I get down to around 20 lines, it starts to hide what I'm typing and you can not see what you type until you post it. Right now it's still ok.

Earlier I had PaintShopProXI open and after saving my file as a JPGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
IT JUST DID IT AND YOU CAN SEE THAT IT CAPITALIZED MY LETTERS WITHOUT ME CHOOSING CAPS> THE CAPS BUTTON IS NOT EVEN ON ON MY KEYBOARD>
now i HAVE THE CAPS BUTTON ON.
Now it's off. This is so frustrating. It also acted as though I had the SHIFT key selected when I tried to open a file as it selected everything in the folder instead of just the one file I wanted.

I need to know if this is an HP problem or a Windows 7 issue. My sister has a similar system and has no problems.
Help, Nancy

I need to know if this is an HP problem or a Windows 7 issue
I had the problem of runaway letters for a while - but on a Dell and with Vista. I suspected my wireless keyboard getting stray signals from somewhere. It was a rare occurence and I have not had it for a while. Never found the real cause though.

Hello, I contacted HP about the mouse freezing up after the computer goes to sleep. I click to start it up and it does but the mouse stays frozen. This has not happened since I did a system restore per HP techs suggestion. I also had a problem where all my aps that I installed uninstalled themselves and their folders were empty, along with Windows installed games like Freecell, spider solitaire, etc. (pre internet connection).

HP tech suggested the system restore and I did that. Everything seems fine and all applications are working. Only the problem with the mouse, as I mentioned above, still happens.

I only noticed the mouse problem once I connected to the internet because that's where I did all my typing. Once I started typing into reply boxes I noticed its strange behavior. Then I got the unexpected multiple letters (ie- gggggggg) happening. It's random and only has happened 6 times now in 3 days (that's how long I've been connected to the internet in the 5 weeks I've had this machine).

I don't know if I should ask HP or if it's a Windows 7 issue.

Edit: Hi WHS, we cross posted. I know another person with typing problems using W7. She gets nonsense letters and has to type everything in Notepad and then copy and paste to make it work. She's on a Dell. My sister has a brand new HP with W7 on it and has no problems at all. I'm tending towards the issue being W7, not the make of the machine but I'm not sure.

I'm not using wireless but I am using a KVM switch for my W7 and XP. The mouse for the W7 HP unit is connected directly to the HP.

I just realize that your post said "Acer 5738X Pentium T2400 processor" yet your specs say HP p6320. I ask 'bout calling HP support thinking it was a relatively new HP and if it was a machine issue they'd probably have heard 'bout this by now. Based on whs's post have you tried a different mouse and keyboard?

Hi, I did not start this thread and do not have the Acer that is mentioned in the main post. I just posted here to keep the forums clean as this is a similar problem.

I do have a new HP p6320y. I am asking here first about the typing problem as I got here via google search and thought someone may know about this problem. I will contact HP tech if my problem persists. I have a one year warranty but I want to solve my problems as quickly as possible. I have a tendency to wait until the last moment and am trying to change my evil ways :)

I love my XP Dell machine but it has a small hard drive and it's 7 years old. Never had a problem with it....nor my 2 Gateways (W95 & W98). This new Windows7 has given me more problems in such a short period of time (4 weeks) than I ever experienced in all the years with my other 3 computers combined.

I just found that all my Bryce files are no longer on the computer. I'm about to blow this thing up with some M80s and send it back to HP.
