Uac On/Off? Replacements?

I´m just curious how many can stand Uac and how many find the functionality good enough to get a replacement, like me.

Edit: Hm, I tried making a poll and discuss it, but no luck.

I like statistics, I was kinda hoping for numbers.

Anyways, I personally have it disabled, I find it pretty pointless since (iirc) you cant make it learn. This is the big point and the reason im using Outpost.

For my own personal systems, where I am the only user, I disable it. For my friends and in-laws who usually get into trouble, I leave it on at default levels. If you are using the computer, and not messing with things a non-tech savvy user shouldn't be touching, you rarely see a prompt.

Yea, for my mom I installed comodo, but I´m not sure theres a point since she cant understand the difference between benign and malignant software.

With the proviso that they be educated that something cuuute just nabbed off the interwebs prompting a prompt warrants some reputation investigation.

With Vista, I generally prefer to have it enabled but in auto-approval mode as Vista prompts way too often. In 7 though, I just have it enabled but without dimming my desktop as that's annoying.

The dimming of the desktop is a very important aspect of the UAC philosophy, it is an indication that the system is in a separate memory space which means the prompt cannot be approved by malware.

I have UAC set to max. When using my admin account, the UAC prompt doesn't bother me too much. When using my standard account, I generally avoid elevating via UAC prompts because a) supplying admin credentials is somewhat tedious b) you could be typing credentials into a fake UAC prompt. When I want to elevate commonly used programs in my standard account, I elevate using an elevated program launcher, as detailed at http://www.sevenforums.com/system-s...-prompts-using-elevated-program-launcher.html.

Here UAC is always on. Three laptops are involved, 2x Vista Ultimate, 1x Win7 Ultimate.

I go along with this even to the point that providing the credentials doesn't bother me. I'm used to it now. As you mention, there are ways around the prompts for the most used apps and in most cases this probably isn't many. I also agree with the original poster about the remembering, If SuRun can do it, surely MS can.
