In installing ubuntu I failed to partition where it would reside into 3 partitions and screwed everything up.In trying to make changes all I get are error messages, doesn't matter what you enter. These blogs will work as long as you can access windows and since ubuntu won't allow that,is there a simple tool that I can use to scrub my drive by overiding ubuntu, or is the only way out to have Best Buy or some such do it? I am running win 7 pro with fat 32 x86. I get nowhere on the terminal line with the sudo get-apt commands as it asks for my password as administrator and the typical error message is 'an error occurred while performing an operation'. I even tried AOMEI which a blogger had mentioned but with the same dead end result.Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.

Hi there
Not sure how you got the problem -- Ubuntu / Debian / Linux Mint (all similar) have very easy graphical installs - however for help on installing Ubuntu I'd suggest you put your question over at LinuxQuestions.org

If you need help on "Unhosing a system" then by all means pose your question here.

The easiest way is to use the Windows recovery disk to repair MBR / boot - but you need to be careful if you are using a GPT drive and UEFI boot. You need to provifr more info as to EXACTLY what you want to do --I'm not sure what your current problem is.

Cheers
jimbo

@jimbo45, I need to get rid of ubuntu totally from my computer.

Ubuntu will only allow their stuff to work on my computer and I want to see the end of itI made a boot repair disc which it does not recognize, it does not accept the drive that it's on,it will not run easybcd, it does not see the win 7 installation cd,nothing. I just need it gone.

You've discovered the Linux is nothing like Windows or DOS. You need a different mindset when you start with it. There is one distro that is slightly more Windows like, it is called "Zorn" and is a free OS based on linux.

You shouldn't be using "apt-get" commands in Ubuntu unless you know what you are doing as that installs individual packages; instead, you should be installing apps from the Software Center.

As to 3 partitions, all you really need is two, and if you have enough system memory, you can live without Swap and then can get by with only one partition. IF your forced the creation of three partitions, on a drive that most likely already had two, that would convert all the partitions to Dynamic Disks -- which would only serve to make the situation worse.

Not sure what your current state is -- what OS can you boot into, if any? Asking because if you can boot into Ubuntu, there are commands you should then run to show us what partitions are on the drive.

Linux/windows problems

@Mark: the issue arose due to errors in my install and the more I tried to fix this the worse it gets. There is no mindset issue as I allocated enough space to store ubuntu and use it as my alternate OS.Now I get nowhere even loading disks burned for ubuntu (boot repair disk, super grub disk iso, easybcd disk). The error messages I get are mostly "error occurred while performing an operation" and this even using the eject command in ubuntu. I boot into ubuntu as this is all allowed as changing the bios boot sequence to boot from any cd is useless and you have to default to the hard drive setting. The partitions are there but not of much use since I can't do anything while I'm shut out of windows. Hope this sheds more light on the subject as my efforts to fix things came with help from bloggers some of whom had similar problems but had access to windows.
