UDP Games via openvpn/tinc

Hey guys - I have the following problem. Maybe someone here can help me figure out whats wrong...

I used tinc to run a small VPN to play LAN games with friends. On WinXP this was working just fine. On Win7, I can still ping all members and access their shared folders, but I can't see any udp-based lan games they create. It works only as long as one of the players is running XP and can be the game host.

Now, here's what I tried so far:
- Installed various VPN solutions (tinc hamachi openvpn tunggle)
- Disabled all firewalls
- launched games with forcebindIP to make sure they are using the VPN
- Still added all the firewall rules needed, just to make sure.

To rule out router problems we also connected to the vpn directly via dial up dsl-modem with no success.

It's always the same scenario: two win7 systems can't see each others games while ping and file system access are working fine.

Now my temporary solution is to use my virtual windows XP mode as the game host - but it would be nice to get it running again.

Hope you guys can help.

jim

hello,

i wrote a little tool that does what you need. if your openvpn is set up rigth this tools clones udp broadcasts that a normaly only sent over the main gateway, to all the other interfaces. in your case the openvpn adapter.

i use it with my friends too. we have a debain rootserver as openvpn server and various windows versions (xp, vista, 7). works for all of them.

just released a (as i think) stable version on my homepage. no setup needed. since you are german, you get the requierment informations out of the link.

btw the tool is in german too. :)

hope that helps, if you got any issues with it, drop me a message.

greets

Hey - nice job!

We switched to SC2 in the meantime but I'll give your tool a try anyway!
I'm sure the day will come when it's needed ;-)
