Is the Dell Vostro 400 (my computer) and Toshiba T135 (my laptop) legacy BIOS or UEFI?

Note: I have not yet updated the BIOS because I'm too lazy to do so and because it is not required.

I thought UEFI supports both but legacy only supports MBR.

UEFI hard disks require the GUID partition table (GPT) partition structure, instead of the master boot record (MBR) partition structure that is used in BIOS.

Here's some more info on this: :)

UEFI is a type of BIOS. If you have a UEFI system it is capable of using the mouse to select and navigate instead of keyboard only.
Legacy BIOS looks like this:

The UEFI interface like this, or similar, board maker's use different ones.

My laptop is UEFI, hard drive was setup MBR. I think the default Win7 install is MBR and Win7 can install to a GPT drive without converting it to MBR. There is no easy way to convert without losing everything. AOMEI can convert a disk from MBR to GPT but will wipe all the data. As a test, I tried restoring a Macrium Reflect image to a GPT drive. It converted it to an MBR.

But I watched a video about legacy and UEFI but it said UEFI Could look like a legacy. Couldyou upgrade legacy to UEFI? (Sorry for the spelling and spacing errors I am using a new tablet and I am still getting used to it)

It really depends on the UEFI firmware for the specific motherboard, and what options are included with it.

With a UEFI motherboard, you can install Windows with UEFI or Legacy mode. However, the UEFI firmware settings at boot will still look the same no matter what mode you installed Windows with.

With a BIOS motherboard, it will not support UEFI. Rarely will a firmware update will allow support for UEFI.

Ok thanks for the replies. I just wanted to know if I have a computer that has the latest technologies or not. One question, could Windows 7 be installed with UEFI Mode?
