Hi
I've posted various threads about random PC freezes & crashes. I used an on-line PSU calculator which showed that I needed 550w PSU & I was currently running a 400w PSU.

My old one was an:
Arrowmax LC-8400 BTX

I'm really not a rich man so couldn't splash out on the top of the range PSU so did some checking and looking at reviews and ended up buying this:

CIT 550w PSU with Dual 12v Rails

The thing is, since buying & fitting the new PSU I've noticed a down performance in my graphics card.

Playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on the old card was no issue, I could run it at full resolution (1680x1050) and full spec no issues. With the new card it's very jerky and quite often slows to a hault and then the system freezes.

I've still got the old PSU. I guess I have two questions:

1) Have I bought a crap rubbish PSU that has made my whole system worse?

2) Do I actually need this or will the 400w PSU still do me fine?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated....

Thanks

Nick

The 400W PSU is spec'd at 13 and 14 A on its two 12V rails.

The 550, 16 and 16A. Not a major upgrade, but you should be better off than before. That supposes that it's not a piece of junk.

Which 5700 series card do you have? It's not in your profile, and I don't feel like hunting back through your threads for it. A 500W supply or better is recommended for a 5770.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've got the ATI Radeon HD 5770.
