If you use 2 seperate HDD, then it wont be called as a dual boot. Based on your BIOS settings, your pc will boot using the 1st boot device.

yes but install windows xp 1st so that after installing 7, the windows boot loader can identify an backward compatible OS(xp) lying somewhere in the computer.

so whats special about the black? you could probably install xp black in virtualbox

but yes you can install win7 on a secondary hd and itl dual boot with xp.

Just be sure that the second HDD is NOT external USB or Firewire.
W7 will NOT install to either USB or Firewire attached...

Why keep XP when you can use XP mode with Pro.

To use the "XP mode", you must have a "qualifying" Intel or AMD CPU, with the "Virtual mode" capability. Some do, some don't..

I have two pcs both with two IDE HDDS with XP on the first drive and Win 7 RC on second drive (well actually I have both Debian and Win 7 on the second drive of one).

My understanding is that if you install it second you waont have any problems - it will display a choice of earlier Windows (your XP) or Windows 7.

If you don't choose either it will boot to Windows 7 though you can switch it around in the in Windows 7 go Control Panel\System and Security\System\Advanced System Settings\Startup and Recovery. You can then choose the opertaing system (windows only of course!) and the length of time before automatically booting the default.

PS I just pre-ordered Win 7 Pro at Amazon (a bit over-indulgent of me) - there were no longer any prices for Win 7 HP there so I went to Play.com to pay a bit more for a HP.

A bit of hestitation about choosing pro this morning and five quid has gone up in smoke. He who hesitates is lost...or slightly poorer.
