Hey everyone, long time troller, first time poster
So my father's work has a company that supplies software for them. He wanted a new computer and he asked them what he should get. They said either XP Professional, or Windows 7 Professional. I picked a laptop out for him with Windows Ultimate figuring it would be more than sufficient and their software probably needed the XP-Mode which both Pro & Ult have. Well now they say they won't support him at all because they said their software has bugs with Ultimate and he needs to buy Professional. I'm completely confused on what on earth could cause their business software to work with 7-Pro and have issues with 7-Ult. I have a feeling they are just being anal & cheap and don't want to spend the money to test Ultimate. The only thing I can possibly believe is that "Branche Cache Distributed Cache" could possibly cause a problem over a WAN? Still just heated over the whole situation and feel guilty having my dad pay for Ultimate.
Anyone have any insight on if these software guys might be right on Pro vs Ult?
I greatly appreciate anyone's input as I would love to be able to tell my dad to keep ultimate and install their software just to prove these guys wrong! Otherwise I think I'll be buying Pro for my dad out of feeling it being my fault.
I can't imagine what would be the difference between the two that would cause a software compatibility issue. If I had to guess, I would just say it is an IT group being difficult because they didn't test the app on Ultimate, and want everything stream-lined.
Well home premium also wouldn't work because it lacks xp mode, but I'm really starting to think these software guy knows absolutely nothing about windows 7 or his company wants to keep it simple .
Why don't you call them and make a friendly inquiry as to the reasons?
You don't have to mention your Dad unless you feel comfortable explaining how you bought him a computer with Ultimate and want to know what can be done.
I tried the friendly inquiry, they just give me "We don't know what causes it, but when we start supporting Ultimate, we will let you know" ...ya I bet.. lol
Yea Im gunna put my butt on the line and tell my dad those guys are idiots and probably only know how to support their clients by using if/then on-screen prompts on their computer.
Any version of windows can install any other version. They only enable certain features depending on which version you install. So, basically they are all the same with different features enabled.
