Hi i recently purchased the 64 bit pro version from the ultimate steal deal.I am currently running 32bit vista home premium but intend doing a custom clean install for the upgrade.I have run the test program and my computer will run 64 bit so should be no problem...
I have downloaded the exe version and have it saved on my seperate hard drive, and burnt it to dvd disc.I have also downloaded the iso image file and have it burnt onto dvd disc.
I have tried all ways to start the install going even changing the bios to run the drive first but no joy.....
please can someone one here write an idiots guide because this is doing my head in and i am sure its just something simple i just cant see.

thanks

Bob

You must make sure you are burning a "Bootable ISO"

well the 4x comes from similar issues after burning a dvd or CD rom on the fastest setting. Sometimes the disk can't quite keep up with the burner so the file integrity is lost.

Some freeware ISO burners don't come with a "bootable" option on the "free" side, you'll need to purchase the full version of some of these applications before enabling the "bootable" options.

The only real way I can think of, to test the bootable, is to simply try... however, considering your thread, it doesn't seem to be bootable at this point.

I use Active ISO, but I'm pretty sure it's a purchased copy /shrug

I'll look around for a freebie...

The .iso you downloaded is already bootable.

You need to burn it as an image ( not as data) to dvd.

View attachment isoburner.zip

Then boot the dvd - and install process should start.

Before you install - make sure you have a backup image of your Vista partition - and have run off the Vista recovery discs ( unless they are already supplied, or you have the Vista install dvd).

Good idea to use this free imaging app. Make a separate backup image of the mbr.

It should just burn straight to disc if you downloaded an iso.

Hi Bob! Your burning seems to be correct from the disc name. Place it in your dvd drive. If it shows a software icon insted of a disc icon, you would be sure about it.

Boot from dvd drive, and go for a clean installation; but dont forget to backup your vista drive as SIW2 adviced.

The only file involved in burning an ISO to DVD is the .ISO file. Nothing else is done with files.

Select Burn Image File to Disk in ImgBurn, load the .ISO file in, place a new DVD in the drive, select 4x speed and tick Verify. Then burn.

Now boot from DVD: Boot from CD - How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD - Boot to CD

Honestly,, with this,, you don't need to go through all this trouble.
There is an easier way now.

Thanks tepid for that i wish i could have found that sooner...:)one more question...I assume that after running the boot disc it then picks up the windows7 information on my drive already.
so in theory i could make a full install disc by putting the boot info and windows 7 files on on dvd.Would this work?

If I understand the question.....

No. That will not work.

If you mean taking the existing installation and transferring it to DVD? No, that will not work.

Follow the first link in my previous post and read it completely.
