Ultimate to Enterprise?

Hello Superleeds,

I suppose that you could dual boot them if you like to. It should be the same as in this tutorial below. Just substitute Vista with the other Windows 7.

i think he means ultimate TO enterprise, in other words can ultimate be upgraded to enterprise?

I still have the same level that as I have always had, but I did get the MVP award in April if that is what you meant.

i just tried to upgrade Win 7 HP to Win 7 Ult, during the setup i selected upgrade and was presented with:

To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade.

so theoretically yes, it's possible to upgrade ultimate to enterprise. whether or not the installer recognises enterprise as ultimate and carries on with the setup, or classes enterprise as a higher level (we know it's the same OS, just different licensing) than ultimate thus requiring a WAU key is unknown, at least by me anyway.

i just wish there was a way to upgrade my 7 HP to ultimate without WAU.

You're right. You will not be able to do a inplace upgrade, but you could not format and do a custom clean install instead by selecting the drive Ultimate is on to install Enterprise on top of it. You would then have a C:\Windows.old folder with the previous Ultimate's files in it in Enterprise as a backup of Ultimate.

Would there be any point in changing from Ultimate to Enterprise?

As they are the same feature wise with only licensing differences the only blockage I could see would be the standard RC to RTM issue

I can see a situation where upgrading from Ultimate RC to enterprise RTM or retail could arise and in that case the "upgrade" should be possible by editing the install image files
