I downloaded Ultramon and I'm trying to use some of the windows 7 desktop backgrounds. I can't figure out how to do that. Does any body have an idea as to how to accomplish this task. I tried the dragging and dropping but all I get is a permissions window telling me I need permission to do that. I would like figure this out before I shell out $40 for it.

Right click the UltraMon icon in the taskbar notification area and go to "Wallpaper". You'll see a "Browse" button. Use it to go to the wallpaper you want to use. In the case of Win 7 backgrounds, you'd go to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper and then the subfolder containing the picture you want to use. Use the "Stretch" style if you want to use a single monitor wallpaper across multiple monitors.

The problem with using the Win 7 supplied wallpaper on multiple monitors is that you'll get some distortion since they're designed for single monitors. Luckily, there are many sites where you can download multi-monitor wallpaper created with the correct aspect ratio. Googling "multi monitor wallpaper" will find you hundreds.

TY for the rep.

Ultramon will let you put a different wallpaper on each monitor so the windows supplied wallpapers should work OK. I used Ultramon on my XP machine with dual monitors and found that option to be nice bonus. The real reason I installed it was the extra tool-bar buttons it added for easily moving open windows from one monitor to the other. Those buttons seem to missing when I tried it on windows 7 so I'm not using it now. The windows 7 keyboard shortcuts work just as well so I don't miss it. I have two 1280x1024 LCDs so i use 2560x1024 wide screen wallpapers tiled across my two monitors. The one image spans across both monitors.

My version is 2.7.1 which may explain why I didn't get the toolbar buttons in windows 7. I've downloaded v3 and may try it at some point. Thanks for the heads up on the new version. :)

Looks like v3 is the ticket for windows 7. I got my buttons back for moving open windows from monitor to monitor. I've got the taskbar icon setup to disable/enable my secondary monitor when I double click it. Comes in handy when I want to play games on one monitor. Having different wallpapers on each monitor is nice too. :D
