Hi guys, wonder if you can help;

I'm having some trouble removing an unwanted icon from the Games folder: here's how I caused it,

I had downloaded X3 Albion Prelude on Steam and when the download and installation had completed I had a desktop shortcut for the game placed on my desktop, I dragged and dropped this into the open games folder and immediatly it took on the appearance of a system icon. This icon is now stuck in the folder and I cant do anything with it (either launch the game with it or delete it)

The game does work when launched from the Steam client but I'm now left with this unsightly and useless icon which I would like to remove.

I have tried using the, "Delete", option from the "Organise" menu without success and the icon itself does not have a right-click menu. In addition I have also had a tentative look in the Registry but didn't alter anything as I could only see keys for my other two games.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance,
David.

Hi David, have you tried deleting the game from this location:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer
username is obviously your username, you'll have to find out the name of the file where it is kept, but you could click through all the files and see which one comes up with the game that doesn't work via the icon, after you've deleted the file directory, restart and see if the game is still there

Hi guys,

Just wanted to pass on a quick note of thanks for taking the time out to help me, youre responses have taught me a bit more about Windows 7.

Couldn't actually resolve the issue as the proceedures were a bit beyond me to be honest so I bit down on the bullet and opted for good old System Restore which did get rid of the icon (too bad I had to suffer a two and a half hour wait to download the game again lol.)

I guess the whole business has been a valuable learning experience for the future.

Thanks once again,
David.
