unable to formate with xp sp2 x64 over win7 x86

Hello to All i am currently using windows7 x86 i upgraded ram to 4gb but i am not getting the full 4gb ram then i decided to use windows xp x64 my mother bord is x64 capable i first checked the xp in virtual box it perform well but when i formated my pc with xp x64 after first restart the error screen comes saying "a disk error is occurred"
then the setup not continue
i try restarting pc but the error screen continuously coming then i formatted pc with windows7 x86 and it is performing well so any one please help me thanks in advance
I don't want the tricks to achieve full 4gb ram in win7 x86
but good suggestions that not include any hack are welcome:sarc:

Hi Wasim

The Tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html will work for you, but you are to adjust its guidelines as per your requirements for example you will not need the system reserved partition for xp.

In my best guess, the error is due to you have formatted C, and the Windows 7 MBR is still present in the hidden System Reserved partition. While formatting, you are to format both the C drive and the 100 MB system reserved.

And, the same version of windows should work with the same key, whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit . Cannot you manage a 64 bit ultimate and have a try ?

Update your System Spec

Wasim, if you fail anyhow to format your C drive and system reserved only, try another solution . Download Partition Wizard Bootable CD , burn it in a blank CD, and boot from it. At the first screen, select "boot from partition wizard", and at the second screen choose "1" and hit enter ... you will be in the partition wizard's GUI.

Now, select the partition you want to format, Click on the "format" button on the top, and then press the "apply" button in top left. Do the same thing for both the partitions. Now you will get an empty space . Select the empty space and click on "Create". Use the entire empty space for your partition, and format it as primary , and then apply changes.

Now you are ready for reinstalling windows .

The best freeware burner utility is ImgBurn . Use it to burn the downloaded iso file.

The partitions you are not selecting in Partition Wizard are totally safe ; but you are to be careful that you are not touching the partitions that you dont want to alter.

If you want to ask anything else before jumping in the partitioning process, you are welcome . It is really better not to do it until you are understanding the entire process correctly
