After reading in the forum that 7106 is not worth the d/l, I went ahead and d/l 7077. I am currently running 7068 x64 after having upgraded from each previous build starting from 7000.
For some reason, 7077 wont upgrade from me. It stalls after the first reboot and the last portion of the install, I believe it said "adding devices..." I never see the percentage build up, just the smalls dots going back and forth.
Killed the install and had to use the rollback option.
I did see the sticky above and wonder if it could be my nvidia driver, I have the latest official ver. which is 185.20.

You're not the first - and no one is quite sure if it is just that particular build, that particular release, or something left over from multiple upgrades that is simply getting in the way.

I personally somehow instinctively knew to go with a clean install - and it was worth it. Of course, with my setup, it is a lot easier than, say, on a laptop with a single drive....

Need to install Build 7077 - 7000 bootable dvd damaged

My Build 7000 DVD is damaged at the install.wim file (like many others so I have read). I had another thread running called a Security Promlem -- and More!!! about a strange virus which had caused endless problems.

I sold that laptop, bought a new laptop, and -- save the lectures and the laughing for the end of your reply posts please -- within 10 minutes of booting into native Vista on new laptop, you would think I never used a PC before because a flash drive I had used on the old laptop (which I had used at internet cafes since), didn't set off any spidey-sense -- and I popped it into a USB port, saw a momentary flicker, and I had my old friend back....I do not think it is Conflicker.C, but I do know it is a P2P worm that uses encryption and is extremely difficult to get rid of.

I read however that these worms do not care much for 64 bit machines, and since my new laptop was an AMD 64, I thought that I would install the 7077 64 bit version.

Since the Vista that was bundles with the laptop eventually crashed after I reinefcted it, I had no other OS exceot for Ubuntu 8.10. iIt is a 32 bit operating system, and it is quite apparent that this worm (actively controlled by another computer or scripts from that computer has infiltrated Ubuntu as well, although it is far less of a problem in Linux.

So.... now that I have downloaded 7077 and burned to DVD (in Ubuntu), it will not boot. It looks correct, but it never goes anywhere.

I do not know if the torrent I used is bada (anyobe's help on this would be appreciated), or if this is something that is too difficult with Ubuntu as the OS creating the DVD and somehow not creating in correctly.

Please help....!

It could be that Ubuntu does not add the 'Bootable' option when burning (i may be wrong). You could try the latest version of PowerISO (4.4) that is available, if it runs that is, i'm not familiar with Ubuntu i'm afraid.

Silly question but have you looked at the BIOS settings as to what the boot sequence is currently set to? Is it doing anything at all when you restart with the DVD in?

Clean install

I was previously on 7068 x64 and was trying to upgrade to 7077 x64 but couldnt. I have a thread in here somewhere on that. I figured I would just wait for the RC. Last nite I went ahead and did a clean install and sure enough it seemed to halt at the exact same part as 7077!!!...but wait it kicked in and installed! I used my external hdd and total time was less than 25mins. Win 7 7100 x64 is alot faster switching to my drives/folders and loading up webpages.... :D

Happy camper!
