For sometime now. It seems I can not install exe files, but only if their file size exceeds 100MB. The error message states something like local group policies prevent this installation ask your system admin.

I have been hunting inside register and using gpedit.msc but was unsuccessful. Any hint would be appreciated indeed.

If I recall correctly it had something to do with hardening the Windows7 installation on this machine.

The cause and solution

Installing was blocked due too CryptoLockerPrevention. One of the rules prevents executing \AppData\Local\Temp\*.7z or similar commands to execute.

I found the setting in regedit. After I observed the error code in MMC - Logbook.

id event 866 - Software Restriction Policies
some {abracadabra}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\safer\codeidentifiers\0\Paths\{cae944f9-189d-4eae-b1b3-4e051f3cfb46}

Searching for {abracadabra} in regedit gave me the exact rule.

Solution: Just rename the 7z in 8z. Reboot and it will not trigger. After install rename again also reboot and all security is fine again.
