Unable to install windows on pc previously running windows 8.1

Hi guys.
So a few days ago my old desktop pc was running on windows 8.1. Then a few days later it suddenly went off while shutting down due to power outage. when i started it again it won't load and restarted to startup repair.
I didn't have a windows 8.1 disk so i thought of installing windows 7. But i was unable to install it on my pc as it booted straight to the os neglecting the dvd. so i googled here and there and none of the solutions seemed to work for me as mine was an old system without functionalities such as secureboot. so, the next time it launched startup repair, i went to the command prompt and formatted the drive containing windows 8.1. The next time i boot up my pc its bios gives me an error saying "An operating system wasn't found. try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system.

So please help me on this any help would be much appreciated.

Wouldn't you expect it to error with "Operating System Not Found" when you just formatted over the Operating System? :huh:

Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7

You should be able to enter BIOS setup now to disable Secure Boot, then trigger the Win7 disk using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key. Be sure to select the UEFI DVD drive choice to install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums
