Help!

I've just purchased a new desktop Extra Value Desktop PC - Desktops | Ebuyer.com along with an OEM W7 64bit.

This is a fresh install on a brand new PC.

Everytime I get the same error message "windows could not format the partition on disk 0. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057"

I've just removing RAM and still same problem. Even tried install XP and after 3 hours fomating the drive it it came up with this error ""Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged."

Has anybody got any suggestions? :p

Hello rprest, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have a look through the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

To start fresh with a clean installation or a clean install with an upgrade version of Windows 7, it may be best to over-write the Master Boot Record of any possible corruption and then use the Windows installer to create and format the partition(s) for installation, have a look at the "#6 clean" option of Method One in this first tutorial linked below.
If you want to completely over-write the entire Hard Disk Drive of any possible malware infection and / or to get the best possible space to do the install to or just for security purposes, have a look at these tutorials.

Sounds like bad hardware. That error code does occur in a few other circumstances, specifically when you are building a PC, and certain BIOS settings are incorrect. But if I had to guess, I would say that a failed format or repartition has damaged the drive, or it was bad hardware to begin with. Not my area of expertise, but I've def seen this error before.

I tried to clean the disk using DISKPART but recieved the following error
"the request could not be performed becuase of an I/O device error"

does it look like I have a faulty Hard Drive??

Use this method to run the commands to check the HDD, if this fails there is another issue, each command followed by the <enter> key.

I don't have a lot of experience with the different HDD apps myself, but you seem very able and I'm sure you will do alright and if you have any issues and need assistance post back here and I'm sure someone will assist you. ;)

The DOS CD from Western Digital or Seagate are the easiest to run.

Sorry your time was wasted wiping a brand new HD with nothing on it.

Is the Win7 DVD clean with no scratches or smudges? Where did you get it exactly?

If The HD tests OK using the maker's diagnostics/Repair extended CD scan, try resetting the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install. Unplug all other perhipherals.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install if that's not what you did. Test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Next try writing the DVD ISO to flash stick to boot to try install: Install UltraISO trial on another machine, on File tab select open DVD, on Bootable tab select Write DIsk Image, Format, WRite. Boot under USB or HD's on one-time BIOS boot menu or by setting BIOS boot order to boot stick first: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD - Boot to CD

When I run out of time troubleshooting problem installs, I move the HD to another computer, install Win7 per these illustrated Steps: Clean Install Windows 7 then SysPrep the HD to remove all drivers before moving it back to problem machine where it should start up like a new install: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

... and still same problem. Even tried install XP and after 3 hours fomating the drive it it came up with this error ""Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged."

Has anybody got any suggestions?

After 3 hours of format attempts to include the attempted install of XP, the clean command was the correct first step to try, perhaps the OP should be completely read first eh.

I've run a complete HDD scan and it's brought up an error code 0x70 'contac your HDD supplier'. What what I can gether online this represents a faulty HDD, likely bad sectors. So it looks like the HDD is faulty.

I've contacted supplier and they are going to replace. So it's back to whence it came! Thank you for the help in identifying the problem!
