Hi all,

following trouble:

i have a an Acer Aspire 5735z which had Win Xp SP2 installed on it. the Wi-fi wasnt working on it .

this model was downgraded from Vista to XP so i thought perhaps there are driver problems. After installing other drivers which didnt work i thought of installing windows 7 and see if it worked. Unfortunately the issue was with this Wifi that once you input your password incorrect it connects to the wifi network but as *limited or no connectivity*

once i've understood that i've tried the same thing in XP and it worked great. Now i wanted to remove Win 7 and i had followed this guide from MS

How to uninstall Windows 7

Forgot to say that XP was on C and Win 7 on D

I formatted the partition on D, Win 7 is gone now , but the boot Manager is still present. I've opened up the boot section on XP through ms config and i dont see any bootpaths for the bootloader. i've run the fixmbr from the recovery console hoping it would kick the boot manager out but this did not help.

Could you please assist me in removing the Dual Boot manager so i can start my xp version without choosing it?

thank you:)

Hi Droiyan3
Have you tried editing the boot.ini file from advanced system settings ?
Right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings >Boot.ini (I've forgotten the exact file name ) but it allows the boot config to open in an editable text file which you can select>Click Save when done

Hope this helps

regards

The above method doesnt allow to edit the boot.ini file.
I would follow these steps..restart my laptop with XP CD in it.
load through CD and get to the repair option.
Provide my administrator password to get the command line.
Fire the following,
fixmbr
bootcfg /scan
bootcfg /rebuild
fixboot

This way, the MBR is re-written with only XP showing as an OS.

Glad it worked.

Fixmbr - The fixmbr command is a recovery console command that creates a new boot record.

The bootcfg command is a recovery console command that enables a user to rebuild, view, and otherwise make changes to the boot.ini file.
/SCAN - Scan all disks for Windows installations and display the results.
/REBUILD - Iterate through all Windows installations and allow the user to choose which to add.

Fixboot - The fixboot command is a recovery console command that creates a new partition boot sector.

FYI: Those commands are all automated in Win7 startup repair.

Sometimes you may need to run bootrec commands to force repair utility to show installation to repair.

Hi Droiyan

Thanks for your feedback.

FYI: When I had the same boot show problem, I tried the same startup repair. It didnt detect anything and said to remove any hardware that was recently added. :o

Then I fired those commands to fix my boot show.
