Unable to set High Resolution on Hanns G Monitor

Hi

First post to forum!

I've built myself a PC and run into some problems with the display resolution.

OS: Win 7 x64
Graphics Card: XFX/ATI Radeon HD 4550 512MB PCI-E 2.0 VGA/HDMI/Dual-Link DV
Monitor: Hanns G HZ194

Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4550
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor

Current Resolution (I guess) is 1024x768 although the settings show that I have selected the recommended 1366x768.
Everything is moderately big and chunky - not safe mode though.

My first thought - still fairly certain? - is that the Generic Monitor is causing the problem.
I spoke to HannG support and they tell me that they have no driver as it is a Plug and Play monitor.

Any ideas how I can get a sensible resolution. It's causing me some big problems as some of my applications don't fit on the screen properly and don't have effective resize/scroll bars.

Have you tried updating your graphics card driver?.

Have you installed one? in the first place. Or have you let windows install a compatable driver for it?.

A disc with drivers should have came with the graphics card.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had just used the Windows Device Manager function. I didn't think of going to AMD and should have really.

Installed their own Catalyst software and updated the drivers and it made...no difference at all.

Have you rebooted the pc ?. Plus how is your computer connected to the monitor?. Vga? Dvi? Or hdmi

On the monitor is there a auto config button ?

Reboot multiple times - each time I changed something.
VGA
Auto config on monitor isn't the issue.

I suppose I could try HDMI and see if it makes a difference?

Tried a new account and the problem does persist.

I also set the DPI to small some time ago.

Still no joy!

Go get yourself a hdmi cabel . Will make a differance.

Just checked the monitor. There isn't an HDMI connection. I'm wondering if I've bought a lemon of a monitor? No drivers, no HDMI, and lousy tech support.

More them likely that's the best resolution the monitor can do, search Google for the monitors full specs
