Unable to type after a few words

I've noticed that when I am typing anything in the Search window in Google Chrome, all of a sudden nothing happens or everything stops. I can't type anymore and my blinking cursor is gone. In order to get it back and functioning, I have to click on the mouse each time it stops. At the same time, I've noticed that the border around the window changes color when this happens. I have also noticed that in the Start Task Manager, the CPU usage jumps up momentarily when this happens. I happens on any webpage where typing is permitted. I notice it more when I am trying to type in a web address or URL address at the top of the page. What is causing this and how can I find out what it is?

Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,

Thanks ThrashZone for your response. Well, I went through the whole procedure as outlined in your link and it quit failing after the first step. I went ahead and did the additional steps, but it never failed again. I am back to my normal setup and it is still working fine. Not sure what to make of this.

OK. Hopefully, I have attached a screen shot of my entries as requested. My failure stopped after the first step and never occurred again, even after the following steps. Seems to me that maybe something in the background was updating during the time I was trying to type some information in the URL window or Search window. Have not experienced this failure anymore since yesterday when I followed your procedure.

OK ThrashZone, here is my msconfig file. As you can see, I only have my Anti-Virus program and my Start menu X checked off, nothing else.

Sounds an awful like the GPU is on the verge of a TDR failure. The only reason there's no BSOD is the driver set for 9600 is smaller and recovers faster. If you are overclocking the GPU, STOP. Return all graphics settings to default and see if the problem continues.

I've never overclocked anything since I started using computers in 1995. BTW, I presently do no have a problem anymore since I went through the procedures of a Clean Boot yesterday, but thanks for your response.

May I suggest you uninstall the AV and replace it for now with the one we recommend for best performance Microsoft Security Essentials.

Run with that for awhile to see the difference and if it doesn't solve you problem, uninstall Start Menu X and try that for awhile.

Other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 for tracing processes, utilitizing System Resources and testing hardware will often reveal the cause.

Yep you might even try this as the slots themselves get crud in them

SLOTCLEANING

Now as for the slots to clean them use astrip of old credit card about 1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them off hold apiece of thin lint free cloth over the end dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin with before an injection) is good and GENTLY swipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s. (see my pic for the stick cleaner)
