Unable to update - sfc couldn't fix problems - big5.nlp, xjis.nlp, prc

Can someone help me please? Thank you so much in advance.

For some time now I've been unable to fix windows update failures...

I've ran the sfc /scannow under admin. I got that nasty line stating that it was unable to repair problems and to refer to the CBS log file... I ran the command to see which files were causing the failure of the update - and it showed several nlp files, as noted below...

I don't have a windows CD, came preinstalled, however, running a bootdisk, still never fixed any of the corruted files.

I've uploaded a file - iskaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\iskaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\iskaa
or
DIR E:\iskaa



The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...



XCOPY <drive>:\iskaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h



(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )



run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Hello Noel,

Thank you so much for assisting me.

The instructions you gave me were followed and everything seemed to go well: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation" message appeared after the sfc /scannow command was performed.

I took the CBS log file (before rebooting) and I've attached it here named "CBS-before-reboot" (1.1MB)...

I ran the Windows Update, I was unable to perform the 5 updates that I have been struggling with, however Windows Defender was able to install ok.

I've attached the images here in the hopes you can see what the cause is.

I've also attached the main CBS.log file (107 MB - link as im unable to upload files of that size) as well.

I have tried to research the error codes (Windows internal help section doesn't seem to have anything related to the problems I'm having).. I've searched google endlessly - in fact for over 10 hours just yesterday alone.

I've tried installing the following all directly from microsoft:
.net 1
.net 1.1 sp1 (or 2, im not sure what service pack it was)
3.5 .net (would not even initiate the install, like as if it was dead or something.
4.0
4.5.1
4.5.2

to no avail..

I've also tried:
The readyness tool - a huge file and waited over an hour for it to install, i received a message that installation was completed. But nothing seemed to prompt me.

I've tried all the fix it tools offered at microsoft..

I've even tried: .NET Framework cleanup tool change history, and that messed things up and caused my firewall and anti virus (Kaspersky Internet Security 2015) to not to work as it needed the .net framework, so I had to rollback my PC to a 'last know good configuration' from the system restore panel. That seemed to help remove the problem re: my firewall/antivirus software, but not the main issues I was having initially.

I've tried Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu and no joy there either - I kept getting this message that I do not have enough storage space. I ran a clean up, but left all the 6GB of windows update files resident on my hard drive.

I was reading that it could possibly be the IRStackSize or something or another in the registry, there was no entry value of that description and I added one and gave it a value of 3, no joy there either.

Before I wasn't even able to do any downloads of updates from the Windows Update Panel, so I renamed catroot2 and SoftwareDistribution to *.old (* = being the orignal names of the folders) and ran a new update of which seemed to resolve most issues, except the current 5 from the 'important' section of the Windows Update Panel (I haven't tried the optional updates yet).

I hope this helps narrow down other possible areas to see why things are not as they should be.

If we're lucky, simply resetting the SoftwareDistribution folder will cure these...


Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

Thanks for the reply.

Odd, I had already done this the other day. I'm guessing that when I downloaded "All" of the updates, it became corrupted?

Regarding the oldest update, what if there are two, or three of three of them, do I install those? I'm not quite sure what you mean by the oldest update as most of them have the same date.

Look through them. Theres usually one older than the rest.
IF not simply pick one of the oldest batvh and see if it installs

I performed the command above... rebooted... I waited 10 minutes, ran the update, and only 5 of them appeared.

Try installing the update from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=39472 and see what happens... - with any luck it'll install properly and free up the remaining updates.

The error code has changed, and appears to mean that there is a problem with the user account you're in.
I'm not sure what the best way to fix this is going to be, so I need to do some research.

Much as I'd love the data - I can't read/understand most of the other files than the CBS/Persists from that upload (and I have enough problems with those!)
...but let's have a look at the setupapi.dev.log anyhow
Please upload the C:\Windows\setupapi.dev.log file - you may have to copy it to the desktop to be able to compress it for upload (mine is 15MB long) - or the compression routine may offer to place the compressed copy on the desktop anyhow.

I may be reading this wrong - but it looks to me as if your Kaspersky is getting in the way of a driver install.

Please try disabling Kaspersky and then installing the updates. (you'll need to set Kaspersky so that it doesn't restart on the reboot)

See if that helps.

I already tried that, even without no firewall installed, no joy there either... same error code above, but for good measure, I tried it anyway... it's still being a PITA...

On a good note, more updates are showing up.

I wonder if the suggestion about the user profile could be causing it, maybe I should try and create a new one with admin. priv'l'dges and see if that rectifies it?
