Unable to Wake Windows...

When I am in Windows 7, it seems that when the computer enters sleeep mode it goes into a coma which requires a forced power down.

The visible symptom is that instead of flashing the power button stays lit...

I have tried various keystrokes to try to wake the system, but no go...

I suspect this may be related to my installation of Open Suse linux in dual boot mode, but there seemed to be a lag between that install and this problem. The problem may be sporadic.

The reason I think it is related to Linux is that the same problem is happening on my desktop and on my netbook, and I installed Open Suse on both.

Any ideas?

Some generic things you can try.

1. Look in your BIOS for the suspend ACPI options and try to switch between S1 and S3.
2. Go to device manager and in the keyboard and mouse properties (Power management), make sure "Allow this device to wake computer" is checked.
3. The hibernation file is known to be sometimes disabled by disk cleaning, to restore run cmd run as administrator, then type "powercfg -h on" (without quotes) and hit Enter.
4. Turn off hybrid sleep.

Nice... I want to use that on a private forum where several of us are cat lovers.

But back on topic...

I tried everything you suggested, and my Netbook still fails when I close the lid, and open it back up.

The one exception is that the BIOS on this system apparently doesn't allow switching of ACPI modes.

If your issues resemble the one described in this thread, try downloading and installing the hotfix linked on this page.

Couple of other things that come to mind.

1) In your power options, go to your advanced plan settings, then in Processor State, set Min Processor state to 100% for both plugged-in and battery.

2) Wierd as it may sound, try updating your graphics drivers.

I don't even remember where I found it, but at one point when I was digging around I discovered a message telling me that a couple of programs were slowing down the sleep process (these were programs I had already removed) and that a driver for my Cruzer thumb drive was causing wake-up to fail. I removed the driver from my netbook, and I now seem to be back to normal.

I'll be a happy camper if it works at home... I will try to remember what I did to see the messages concerning the problematic programs/drivers.
