Solved undoing "remove location from library"

Hello there

My name’s Katie and I’m not the best with computers. If any of you good people could help me recover my files it would be greatly appreciated. If not then it’s my own stupid fault for not making backups of my pictures.

I’m on windows 7 on a sony vaio and was trying to clean up my documents. I had all my individual picture folders as a sub folder of “my pictures” and my pictures as a sub folder of “pictures”. I wanted to remove the “my pictures” folder and keep all the sub folders.
I right clicked the “my pictures” and told it to “remove location from library”. I’ve now lost all my individual picture folders and all the photos in them. I’ve looked in my recycle bin and can’t find them. There were only one or two of the photo folders in there, but when I told recycle bin to restore them they’ve gone and I can’t find them by searching the file name.

I think someone told me that you can reset the entire computer to how it was a couple of weeks ago which I’m quite happy to do. I’d just love to get them back.

Hi Katie,

If you have removed the my pictures folder from the libraries then you have not deleted anything - libraries are just a directory system to bring together folders from different drives or other locations.

Check your user folder (top entry in right hand of start menu), and you should still have a my pictures folder, which should still contain your sub-folders and pictures.

If you wish to add this back to the library right click the folder choose add to library and select the pictures library when prompted.

If you have deleted the whole my pictures folder and its contents this is more of a problem but even then there are options than may work.

Check the first option above and post back - if we need to go further we can do this

In case you ever lost a folder completely, you can usually recover it from the Restore Points (Shadows) with Shadow Explorer. Here is how:

But the best measure is to make frequent backups of your data. And don't keep your own files in the C partition but make a seperate Data Partition.

In addition, the free program Recuva may be able help recover a deleted file if you didn't have system protection turned on for previous versions.
