unexpected/Inappropriate shutdown

This new thread is the result of a just-resolved previous thread.

I was having problems with my computer stopping my wireless usb pci adapters after 15-20 minutes sitting idle. At the recommendation of the person in that thread, I deactivated power-saving shutdowns for thumb drives. Instructions below:

THREAD TITLE: "usb drive is powering down when idle, don't want it to"

DIRECTIONS TO CORRECT THIS:
Click Start and type "Power Options" click the first result in the list. Click "change plan settings" next to your current power plan click "Change advanced plan settings" followed by "change settings that are currently anavailable". Make sure that Wireless Adapter Settings>Power Saving Mode is set to "Maximum Performance" and USB Settings>USB selective suspend setting" is set to Disabled.

Now my ENTIRE COMPUTER gets shut down after sitting idle without going through the shutdown process. (Hard stop?) This is frustrating because I can't get automatic updates and my computer can't run its automatic scans as long as this keeps happening. HELP!

try typing msconfig into the run box and increasing the timeout setting

Start search bar type "Resource Monitor" when you see it click it.

Scroll down left side open Applications and Service Logs> Microsoft> Windows> Diagnostics-Performance. Then highlight Operational.
On the right side of the page click Event Properties and the window in the center of the big Snip appears.
As you can see Nvidia Updater caused this warning on mine.

Hopefully you can find a record of what caused the shut down.
That may help with finding a solution.

Mike

Found it. Unfortunately the logging feature was not turned on (I changed that setting.). I'll try this again the next time it happens.

I'm not sure it will show a log entry that will help.

Hopefully it will point to the driver/software/hardware causing it.

Also if that does or doesn't help a BSOD report may help. It contains hardware, driver and software info beyond BSOD's.
Actually Crash and Debug report would be a better name for it.
Instructions for making report.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Make the report and post it in the Crashes and Debugging section.
Include your info in post one of this thread.
The BSOD crew can see if they spot the hardware/software culprit.

I'm out of ideas with that.
