Doing clean install for Windows-7 64bit but over 3/4 of the way through while in "completing installation" phase computer shuts off completely. Before turning off gives error msg "... windows has encountered problem and could not complete the installation..". Have Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L v2.0 motherboard/ 4GB GSkill RAM/Intel-e8400 processor. Wondering if it's hardware driver issues or BIOS problem.Tried turning off all peripherals in BIOS but no success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

All the geezers on 'ere ;) say to load only with 2gb of checked memory installed!

Might help!

enjoyed this - very apt

"OS windows 7 64 but" ?@/'[.[;.'.'p][[/#'.

My suggestion
reset bios back to defaults
disable everything except usb

Until Win7 reboots

Then put everything back to normal in bios
reboot
Win7 then searches for your network, peripherals etc to download drivers off internet

Hello windower, welcome to Seven Forums!

If the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

ImgBurn Free ISO Burner

If that doesn't solve it and there's nothing on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that you want to save, have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes every sector (all the previous Windows code) on the HDD with zeroes and that makes the best possible space to install Windows to.

Be sure to post back with an update.

Thanks for the suggestions folks....but unable to have any success at it. Reduced RAM to 1 module of 2-GB only, there is no problem with ISO image, over wrote the HDD and reset BIOS to default and disabled peripherals except for USB. Same thing happens when 3/4 of way thru the install, DVD drive turns off and then few seconds later the system shuts down..

Any additional ideas...

Set target HD as first to boot in BIOS setup, then boot DVD using one-time BIOS BOot Menu key given on first boot screen.

Test your RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes, remove 2gb to try install, then swap sticks.

Unplug all other HD's. Did you wipe your HD with zeroes? Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html, then test using HD maker's full diag/repair CD scan: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

Do you have the latest BIOS version update? Try setting SATA controller to ACHI, then IDE if necessary.

If you have onboard graphics chip, disable video card to try install. Install driver for card later.

ISO might be confirmed good, but verify the DVD using ImgBurn: load ISO, confirm "Bootable" in text at left, insert DVD, click Verify button. Burn another at 4x if necessary.

Try install from USB flash stick: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

If nothing works, then swap HD into another machine, unplug other HD's to install, remove to problem machine. If Win7 starts up it will swap out all drivers, requesting several restarts. If not try booting into Safe mode to change out chipset and video driver. Or boot Win7 DVD/Repair CD to run Startup Repair repeatedly.

time to squeeze more specs out of you

Windows flavour + full retail box disk?
What sata hard drive are you using-which m/board connector
raid - non raid
Is dvd sata too + name/model/manufacturer? which exact motherboard connector?
Have you swapped sata leads?
Does Win7 ask to load sata drivers at any point?
16x Graphic card/memory?

Try this, force 1.5Gb/sec Sata either in bios menu or motherboard pin (jumper) short if you don't have the hardware for 3Gb/s! Try dvd first then also hard drive
