Unexplained GUI/Dialogue Box font change

Hello folks!

Hope someone can help with this small but annoying issue.

I recently noticed that dialogue boxes of certain programs use a wrong font and I have tried everything I could find on the web to change it to no avail, e.g. resetting font settings to default. Best explained by an example. Look at the below dialogue box, the way it SHOULD look:

true.jpg

As of a few weeks, it now looks this way:

false.jpg

This is an example for program IrFanView. Other programs like Quicken act the same. The snap shots were taking from different PCs, so the different color theme can be explained. Anyone know what could have happened here and how to return this to normal?

Many thanks for help/suggestions.

Cheers,
Moe

Hello Jerry and thank you for the welcome!

To answer your questions:

1. No, I use a Win7 default theme
2. I have not made any changes manually
3. Same as 2, no changes, however, I should mention that I just recently had a virus on the PC (I think it was a rootkit virus that I have (hopefully) cleaned up entirely, but I suspect it got as far as making system changes before I caught it. Was a pain to get rid of, too.

Anyhow, I have since reset all fonts and settings to default and also reloaded Win7 fonts, but for some reason a few programs chose to use (what looks like) a system font rather than the default Segui 9pt. Note that it also doesn't show the color red any longer for some headings; it's all black.

You would be better showing an example from your machine only.
Win 7 and XP use different font rendering methods. so its to be expected.

Okay, so I have tried everything proposed. Also reinstalled graphics driver, ran four different anti-virus programs, played with Clear Type settings, all to no avail. It looks to me as though this is a rendering problem as visible by a listing of fonts in MS-Word:

fonts.jpg

It is quite obvious that the fonts are not rendered correctly, but simply in a black, bitmap sort-of-way. Unless someone has an idea what could cause this, I will have to either live with it, or wipe the machine clean
