Well, I have got a desktop computer and a laptop at my home. I have got a single internet connection. So I added an extra NIC card to my desktop PC. Then I connected my desktop to the internet and then connected my laptop and desktop using a crossover network cable. Both my machines have got win 7 installed. So when I created the network my laptop identified the network and allowed it to me to choose between home, work and public networks. I am able to share the internet too. But my desktop keeps on saying unidentified network which prevents me from joining my homegroup. I don't think there is problem with driver. So any help would be heartily appreciated.

Select both adapters using shift+click, the internet connection adapter and the laptop connection adapter in the network connections window, right click and bridge connections. That's by far the easiest way to overcome this issue...
