Unidentified Network/Internet access

Did a forum search and could not find my particular problem.

I have a small business network (15) running through a Linksys RVS4000 router with DHCP enabled.

One workstation will connect out to the internet upon reboot or disabling/enabling the NIC, but shortly thereafter disconnects. It does, however, maintain seeing all the workgroup PC's and accessing mapped drives. The IP address and gateway are obviously legit when checked.

I have tried most all of the suggestions in other threads with similar issues (ipconfig release/renew, dnsflush, system restore), including restarting cable modem and router, but the darn thing keeps flipping to unknown network and cutting off internet access.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well, I've tried everything I can think of from suggestions on this board and others, including system restore, reinstalling the NIC, removing firewall and all security (Microsoft Security) moving to another location, windsock reset, ip reset.....still cuts off after ~5 minutes. (I've left some things off I'm sure)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you attempted to update the firmware on the router?

Have you attempted to update the firmware on the router?

No, all other machines on the network have full access and this specific machine still has access to all network drives. I have restarted the router and modem and all network PC's.

Thanks.

No problems visible here. But I'm sure this is when the connection is working.

Have you tried to start up in safe mode with networking to determine if an installed program or A/V software is causing the problem?

If the problem goes away in safe mode then most likely the problem is caused by something installed on the system.

Have you been to the Windows Update Center recently?

Have you tried to update the Intel driver from the Intel site directly?

Of course updating the Intel driver is the easiest option here, there appears to be a new driver 1-11-13 for your Intel adaptor. Choose the correct Op system when you get there. :)

Actually that screen shot was when it was not working.

Yes, I did check it out in safe-mode. Same issues.

If I renew the IP address it will work for a few minutes and click off.

Thanks.

Please update the driver from the Intel site. I added that link to my last post.

Is there anything from Apple installed on this system like iTunes?

When you look at Add/remove programs, does it list any type of Intel software there?

The so called wireless connection software's can cause problems sometimes.

OK...I did that, but as expected I now have no LAN connection either.
I already downloaded the update from the Intel site and reloaded that last week, so not sure what next.

Ok, I'll assume that you reinstalled the software.

The only possibility is that something is blocking the connection, most likely an A/V software which may be installed on the system or was removed at one time.

Have you tried to start up in safe mode with Networking to see if the problem persists?

This Unidentified Network problem is fairly common but there are many solutions. The link below mentions one type of fix where you type the default gateway into the IPv4 properties.

There are many other solutions in the comment section below the main article.

Windows 7 Unidentified Network, Limited Access, No Internet Connection Problem Resolved

Thanks Chev...I will go through those.

I did try the safe-mode with Net last week, and the same thing.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials only on this PC...It's the only AV that has been installed. I did turn that off also, but same results. Turned Windows Firewall off also.

It's pretty consistent that it gives me ~5 minutes of internet access, then cuts off. All mapped drives on the LAN remain working.

Thanks.

This 5 minute time limit is very strange and probably impossible to track down the source, usually something installed on the system would cause this but safe mode with networking usually will weed that out.

You might try running my IPresetAll file, in case it's a strange problem with the network stack or something else, this will reset everything in the network. Just unzip and run the file, your machine will reboot itself.
