Unidentified Network Issue

Hey guys, i'm having an issue with my network settings I think, been at it for a few days and I can't seem to figure it out. You see my mom's laptop when connected to the modem, it works fine, but when I connect my laptop it shows "unidentified network - no internet access". I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but does anyone know how to change or reset the network settings? maybe I can set it to a home network and it will be recognized. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is frustrating me, Thanks.

Usually when this problem occurs it's because of a rogue secondary default gateway of 0.0.0.0 due to some outdated hardware but the problem can usually be fixed by manually inputting the correct default gateway into your IPv4 properties window. The link below shows you how.

yes I have been working on this constantly with no success. I have no clue how to go about this, I really need the internet to get going on this computer. I can't even connect using wifi, it won't show up in my wireless network connections. Again it is pretty frustrating when you have a computer that cannot connect to the internet.
