Unidentified Network, No internet access, tricky problem.

Wow.

I am officially stumped. Maybe someone here can offer some insight.

I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite, nothing special, but it gets the job done. I don't have internet at home and go to multiple locations to get wi-fi. The one I use the most is a hotel down the street. It has the fastest connection speed and it is closest to home. For whatever reason, the connection no longer works there. I've taken the laptop elsewhere and it works fine, so it obviously isn't something specific to my laptop.

Here's where it gets tricky. I've also been able to connect to the network at the hotel with my android phone and an old dell laptop I had laying around, and it works beautifully, so it isn't something with strictly the network.

That can only mean it has to be something to do with the way the two are communicating I would assume.

I've tried deleting some programs (apparently both AVG and Bonjour that came with iTunes have caused issues in the past), I've set a static IP address to the best of my ability, I've refreshed the TCP/IP config, I've done a winsock reset, and more. I can't for the life of me figure out why it still can't connect to the internet.

Any ideas for now?

I'll add my ipconfig later when I actually go somewhere that I can access the internet to post from that laptop. In the meantime suffice it to say that the only thing out of the ordinary is that the Default Gateway is blank.

Thanks in advance

You sure the hotel hasn't just blacklisted your MAC address on your laptop? Generally they make free wifi available for guests, so unless you've got some agreement with them beforehand, it could be something that simple (especially if it works everywhere else, and other of your devices still work there). It's not likely going to be client-related, at least from your problem description.

I have permission from them, so I doubt thats it. Unless there is some sort of automated system that can automatically block it, which would be a handy program for a hotel to stop people from coming in and using it too much, but does this kind of program even exist? I'll have a talk with whoever is in charge of all that over there. I'm there so much they all know me, lol.

Heh - indeed. Given your problem description, I'd highly doubt it's a client problem. Anything's possible, of course, but it almost appears to be blocking just your laptop, so I'd ask around.
