Solved unidentified network-no internet access

I have been trying for hours to correct this problem using the previous threads and information, sadly nothing has solved it. Perhaps mine is different. In this case this is not computer specific. 3 laptops no longer can connect to the wifi of the router, however the router shows a connection at top speed and the ethernet is working fine. I have tried the troubleshooter, uninstalling the wifi device and rebooting, checked all entries, tried manually inputing the dns, gateway, etc, nothing fixed the problem. Even dropped the firewall.
It is still called an unidentified public network, not a home or private network, which it had been and under Win7 Home, can't seem to change that. The security WEP code is correct. When I click on connect to network, it shows the router/modem as connected but no internet access (unidentified network).
What am I missing? Suggestions would be appreciated as this happened to all 3 wireless computers, which seems to mean that either some software made a change I don't know about in the config of the wifi network. Had just updated Skype when this happened. Have since deleted it. Could it be the config in the modem/router. That seemed to be the same as previous when it worked fine, but not positive.
Advice would be welcome.

Im no expert here in the field of networking so someone else may have a better suggestion, but as it is happening across all devices this problem appears to be router related - first of all I would try rebooting the router by powering it down - by taking out the mains power lead for 30 seconds, allowing the power to fully drain, then place the power lead back in, then allow the router to fully reboot, reboot any connected devices and try connecting via the wireless again. See how things fair up from there. Failing that I would be looking at a hard reset of the router.

I agree that it must be router related but how or what had changed the config. It appears to be a "recognition" - config issue, as it no longer is using the name of the network but the "unidentitfied" issue. I still suspect the latest skype as it happened after that. I had turned the router off and on twice, once last night and once in the morning, without a fix. I tried it again being sure to pull the power and wait longer. Before that I had uninstalled the wifi adapter and rebooted one of the wifi laptops. Basically trying all the suggested ideas without success. This time it worked, so thanks for the reminder to try it again.
I would warn anyone on these boards to be skeptical of the latest skype and to possibly create a restore point before loading it. Also, before letting programs that rely on the internet connection, look it over so you can see what might have been changed after.
Was it skype or Microsoft, I'll never know but caution is a good idea.

I too agree completely with Cookieman. I had a somewhat similar problem a few days back. The Ethernet on my Desktop and the Wi-Fi on my Laptop were working perfectly. Then a second Laptop arrived and try as I might I just couldn't connect it to the router. As my ISP provides free help I called them and they sent one of their Techies to sort the mess out.

The Techie tried and failed too. As I had another router on hand I asked the Techie if he would like to try and connect with that one. He said yes as the second brand was very easy to connect. I then changed the modem and the Techie connected everything in 10 minutes flat.

The first Modem was from Huawei and the second one was a Beetel. So may be your Techie may sort out the mess with your existing modem or you might have to change it with another brand.

Glad you had success. My problem was as sudden as yours but was after a new skype was installed. That seemed to have changed the config of my router/modem, which had lost it's ability to see the correct network, so created a phantom public one. Finally the last reboot of the router (after making sure all else was correct) did the trick. Sometimes the simple answer is the best although at first that didn't work.
