I have a brand new acer aspire notebook and I'm trying to connect to my airport extreme card built into my iMac desktop. The laptop sees the signal just fine, but it will not connect to the internet and I get "limited access". What can I do to connect?

Hi and welcome to SF,

This is an interesting issue, from the surface of things, it looks like there is a restriction on the connection to access the internet from the built-in card. You were able to tap into the wireless card network so that narrows it down to possibly hardware, MAC address, IP restriction.

Can you do an ipconfig from the notebook and show us?

Im having the same problem with this make/model of laptop. I just bought mine today, plugged it up, turned it on and during the very first start up process it snagged the wireless signal in the house and I was connected, no problem. I used it for a while, installed some apps [google chrome, etc] and stepped away for a little bit. The laptop went into sleep mode and when I came back, I suddenly had "no internet access" despite having a strong signal from router and every other computer in the house able to go online [ie. Im sending this from my desktop right next to the laptop]. Ive disconnected from the router and reconnected, Ive shut the laptop off and back on, etc and still "no internet access".

It shows that Im connected to the local network from my router, but for the network name it says "Unidentified network". Any advice or suggestions are more than welcome.

I can help everyone with their wireless problem

Actually this is a problem for thousands off laptop owners from the old windows up to windows 7.

listen really carefully.

I HAVE A ACER LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. I GOT THE SAME PROBLY.

& I HAD TO READ 1000'S OF FORUMS for THE NUMBER 1 ANSWER.

OK HERE WE GO.

.FIREWALLS like MCAFFE & NORTON if you have any or them two, turn them OFF!! they block INCOMING SIGNALs,
so you can PICK UP WIRELESS but not connect, says UNIDENTIFIED NETWORK N NO NETWORK ACCESS. Oh yh if ur finding it hard to delete NORTON because they have funny files that dont delete when you do a standered uninstall.. download something called Norton UNINSTALLER TOOL. search for it in google it on nortons website.

IF THAT DIDN'T HELP YOU  READ UNDERNEATH FURTHER

BECAUSE WHEN YOU FIRST TRIED TO CONNECT TO YOUR WIRELESS, YOU NEVER CHOSE THE RIGHT SETTINGS YOU CHOSE UNIDENTIFED THE BOTTOM AUTO CHOICE.... SHOUDN'T HAVE DONE THAT..... CHOOSE HOME... BUT NOW UR STUCK & GUESS WHAT YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT... AND SO CAN'T 1000'S OV OVER PEOPLE.

OH YEA... THE WHOLE LIMITED ACCESS REALLY MEANS NO ACCESS OVIOUSLY EVEN WITH EXCELLENT SIGNAL.

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS PAY £30.... FOR A PC DUDE TO FIX IT CUS THEY BELIEVE IT OR NOT HAVE SOFTWARE TOOLS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM.

I KNOW AFTER ALL THESE YEARS MICROSOFT WINDOWS STILL HAS PROBLEMS .

IF THEIR A BETTER ANSWER OUT THEIR MAIL ME CUS I HEARD EVERY STORY OUT THEIR ABOUT THE NON CONNECTING WIRELESS LAPTOPS
