Unidentified Network

I just moved to a new home, and i cannot connect to my local LAN ! I am on a Mac right now ( arghh ) and the internet works fine on this one. First of all here are my specs;

Asus p5w DH Deluxe
win 7 ( 7600 )
q6600
2 integrated network adapters on the mobo: Marvell Yukon 88E8053 pci-e Gigabit Ethernet Controller

I am using a cable to a router, wich is connected to a modem. The router is fairly old but has always worked fine ( using a direct cable doesnt work aswell ). Win7 says it is connected to a 'Unidentified Network'. The ipv4 settings for the adapter are; Automatic ip/dhcp.

ipconfig gives an ipv6 address. The automatically generated ip is: 169.254.241.20. There is nothing at Default Gateway :/

The driver settings are correct, as far as i believe. I downloaded the latest x64 win7 marvell yukon drivers.

I disabled sleep mode on my pc. I dont have the Bonjour service running.

On the Mac, i only had to enable DHCP and it regonized the network correctly. These are the ip's that it got:
ip: 83.87.107.135
subnet: 255.255.248.0
router: 83.87.104.1


This is getting frustrating since i cannot see where the problem could be.

the fact that you are getting a 169.254.x.x address indicates a basic inability of the machine to communicate with the dhcp service on your router

check physical network cabling/connections
try a different port on your router

to isolate router/isp/pc try this
disconnect all cables to all devices - EVEN POWER
connect power to router, wait for normal lights (probably just power)
connect power to laptop & turn on - wait for normal lights on laptop
- LOOK FOR network link lights very near network port on laptop
- LOOK FOR light on router corresponding to port that LAPTOP network connects to
- IF NOT GETTING LIGHTS, check location that network cable plugs into
-- have seen folks plug network cable into USB port on printers (square not rectangle)
- IF GETTING LIGHTS, check ip address of laptop: if still 169.254.x.x
-- perhps you connect laptop to WAN or INTERNET port on router :: incorrect :: connect laptop to LAN port on router not WAN
-- or perhaps problem with router
-- most routers default to handing out ip address of 192.168.x.x
-- 83.87.x.x address is very unexpected and probably dangerous -- in fact a quick search of internet shows that address as being owned by ripe.net of amsterdam!

NOTE THAT YOUR MAC IS ***NOT*** HACK PROOF! DISCONNECT IT FROM INTERNET

I am borrowing my roommates mac, and i hate macs. I couldnt care less if it is not hackproof

I am 100% sure i'm using non-faulty cables and ports. Ill try the things you just suggested. I am not using a laptop btw ( well, the mac is a laptop ). Here are the diagnostics for now:

I find it weird that it says Architecture: amd64, since i have a q6600.

And the architecture thing is normal, that is for a x64 processor.

Now: Can you connect just using a direct cable from the modem?
Also, the network adapters might be conflicting one another, try removing one.

Has this worked before with the computer and that router?

Only problem I see is this. The cable does not go to the router first, it goes to the modem first and then it should go to the router then to the computer. I'm sure you just typed this out incorrectly though.

a few questions:

1. which of the two netcards are you using?
2. Have you set the properties of TCP/IPv4 to automatic or fixed IP

I noticed your router is on a different subnet as your mac. 104 vs 107

One thing you can do is, go to command prompt and type
ipconfig /flushdns

1. in your network and sharing... delete the unknown network.
then manually setup the proper network.

if the other computers work OK on it, and all your doing is swapping the cable from one to the other.. go to step 1 above.

Hey,

Thanks for all the help i'm getting so far. I have been bussy on this all day, and came to the conclusion that my equiptment wasent the problem. I have tried 3 different OS's (win,linux,mac) and all failed to connect to the internet ( I am at my parents home atm ). I'm having a mechanic from the ISP coming over in 2 days to fix the epic suckage.

As for your questions:

I have the feeling that it can connect to the modem, but the modem not to my ISP. Maybe the signal is too low. This is a ghetto-appartment after all

The weird thing is that when the Mac had internet with the 83. ip address ( wich was my ISP ), the other pc's couldnt connect. Sure, my Mac and Linux could see my windows machine but no internet.

1. Doesn't really matter wich one i use, they both work correctly, and they both fail to regonize anything but 'unidentified network'.
2. Automatic, but when i set it to something like 192.168.0.4, nothing happens.

Ill try that cmd when i come home, but knowing the mac doesnt work anymore, my internet is probaly all fuxed up =[

Anyways. It is not Windows 7 fault, or the drivers. Glad to know.
