I have a HP G71 laptop with windows 7 home premium installed. These sounds are infiltrating my music lists. They appear at random between songs and the identity tags insert themselves into song lists - sometimes in sequences of 20-30 long. Deletion demands administrator authorization. I need these sounds for NOTHING! I would like to uninstall the entire package.

You can control the System Sounds in the "System Sounds" panel. I use my system for my recording studio so I have mine set to "no sounds" to avoid any potential sound interruptions.

Go to the Control Panel/Hadware and Sound. Click on "Change System Sounds". Set the "Sound Scheme" to no sounds.

It has always been set to "No Sound". The problem is as I described. The sounds act like a virus: infest my files and multiplying. I want to delete the sounds file entirely! I have always found it to be nothing more than a nuisance.

There is a procedure to turn Windows features on or off but system sounds are not one of the options. The "no sounds" option is the only thing available, without deep knowledge of the OS to disable any sounds.

There are some programs that have their own sound schemes and possibly one of those is causing it. Look at what is in the startup, maybe something there is causing the sounds. Messenger type programs, Skype or similar, e-mail programs, etc.

Bud Isaacs and his recording of "Slowly" with Webb Pierce is probably the most influential pedal steel guitar recording. There were pedal steel guitars around before this but that one recording was the breakthrough that all other steeler's cite as the inspiration to play pedal steel. I met him at the International Steel Guitar Convention in St Louis when he was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.

Firebird: Thanks I'll have a look. I'm only marginally adept at these things and this has been very discouraging. I have over a thousand hours of country music files that have taken me years to compile. When one of these things appears it may be in a sequence of as many as fifty at a time. When I attempt to erase them I am notified that "administrator authorization is required". At this point even if I could erase them it would take hours to do so. I'm at the point where I'm ready to call in the "Geek Squad"!

My Brother was Glenn McKeever (born in Okl.) He was part of the "Bakersfield Sound" group during the late fifities and early sixties. At one point he had his own country television musical show in Sacremento. He died last year in Yuma where both he and Bud lived. Bud was at his side.
I have the recording of Slowly. His steel work was an astounding departure from the Drifting Cowboys' sound that was the dominant style at the time. Regarding Webb's singing, I find that: "A little bit goes a long way" (kinda like Dolly). It surprised me to learn that (according to Billboard) Webb Pierce holds the record for total record sales during the fifties.
I have a friend who attends the Steel Convention every year. I intend to go next year as I am usually in Michigan about that time. I would like to continue this conversation, but suspect that diverting this forum towards a social column would be rude. Any suggestions? Chevelon Tom
